Wolf Small Rifle Magnum Primers

Let me hear your experiences with these primers. Are these worth buying over Federal 205M's or CCI 450's. I can get some of these but it's too cold here and buck season is starting for me to do any load testing, any experience with these would be greatly appreciated.

You can find them at Brownells. From what I've heard, the only difference between the small rifle and small rifle magnum is the cup thickness/strength. Would like to have someone back me up on that one though.

No, they are now packaged as Tula. I have both of the the SRM packs, can't tell a dang difference between the older Wolf and the newer Tula. Actually, the newer Tulas are a lil tighter in the primer pocket than the Wolf were. But performace wise, I can not see any difference between them. I will continue to use them.

They are now available as Tula primers but are exactly the same. They are excellent, regardless the name. Tough, consistent and the price is right. A very viable alternative to any other SR primer. BTW, they are milder than other "magnum" SR primers.

Yeah, don't let the "magnum" fool ya, it is not a larger or hotter than norm charged primer. The cup is much thicker. These are great in a gas system.

They appear to be different to me (Wolf- Tula) different color paper on the compound, different color/material cups. Wolf's were brass or nickel plated brass, Tulas are very dark copper colored (Cu plated?). And Tulas are more expensive than Wolfs. They may be the same with some minor changes, but they are not visually the same.

Either that, or I'm confusing the KVB223, KVB223M, and the KVB556M.

They are the same. I've got both and have shot both, tested both, compared both side by side while competing, and came up with the same results. EXCELLENT....... Using the same loads with the exception of primer, there wasn't a nickels worth of difference between them. They are next to impossible to pierce and are very consistant.
There is two articles that are a must read concerning primers.

and

They were a lot of help to me......2 cents

As froggy mentioned, the Wolf SRMs are a great option if you've got an AR15 or AR10, and are having problems with primer piercing. I built myself a 6.5x47 AR10 on DPMS receivers, with DPMS bolt & carrier a few years ago, and had pierced primers with loads that I'd considered rather mild in several bolt rifles, with every primer I tried - except Wolf SRMs.

Have also used the Russian primers in several other applications - both large & small rifle magnums - and have had very good results in most cases. Only thing is - as was mentioned - you've got to get them seated very firmly, or risk FTF.

German is a member here and contributes ton's of great info for us.
The stuff is Priceless.
He doesn't try to market anything, he strives for non-bias, actual testing and provides the results for each individual reader to use the info and data as he see's fit.
The Small Rifle Primer and the Large Rifle Primer tests are both extremely well done, (link to Large Rifle is at the bottom of the SR page)
I would recommend that any(all) reloader actually read the articles instead of just a giving a cursory short glance and looking at pictures.

I'm not trying to be rude in any way, but the stuff he's done is just too good to just skim over, I've had his pages bookmarked since I began loading several years ago and still refer to them on a frequent basis

They are very good primers, but I would not pay $4.69. Wideners had them for $16 for 1k. I think you can still find them around $20 per 1k.

I have used the PMC 223 primers with excellent results but I switched to the Wolf 5.56 magnums that had several FTF and I suspect they are a bit larger in diameter and were hard to seat in the military brass so I will need to swage the primer pockets of that brass.
