Wolf Primers

Hey guys, Im shooting a 6 Dasher and Im still in the load development stage. My question is regarding the Wolf or Russian primers is for this cartridge what is the preferred primer, magnum or standard? The rifle is a Stolle Panda action, 26" .236 bore 8" twist Krieger barrel .272 neck with .104 freebore was the reamer used and Im shooting 105 gr VLD's but Im also trying 95's, 107's I tried to give as much info as possible. Thanks

If you look at the website at Weidner's, it will give you a description of the primer use. For regular mild to medium loads, you use the standard. For hot, high pressure loads, you use the magnum because of the harder cup. With the colder temps coming, you might also want to use a magnum primer all around, depending on how cold it gets where your at and the powder temp. sensitivity you're using).

The standard Woolf Small Rifle Primers are very, very soft. With mild loads in my 6mmBR even with a bushed firing pin, they crater. We called and were told that the magnum primers are using the same amount of priming compound asnj the "regular" ones, but with a thicker cup.

These work great for me and others locally in all our small rifle primer cartridge guns.

Yep the Mag's all the way. I tried the regular small rifle in my 6mmBR and pierced the primers. I bought 5000 of them, But they work great in my .223 AR-15!!

Yes, the same holds true for the large primers in that the Magnum designation signifies a thicker cup and no other change. However, the standard large rifle hold up very well even to very hot .308 loads so I would suggest the standard.

Yup, I agree that its just the cup thickness, importer says so, and my own testing of both reg and mag indicates such, though I seemed to find in the 308 that I lost about 25 fps but SD came down a hair). But, all of that could have been other variables that I didnt have control over.

In any event, I run the Wolf LRM in my Palma loads and am so happy with results that I now buy nothing but Wolf primers. I still run Fed 210Ms in my 6Xc but only cause I still have a lot of them and have loads developed with them. Otherwise, its Wolf across the board..pistol, rifle, etc. Now, if they cost the same as Fed210M, etc, would I still use just them? Dunno, probably, but wouldnt be smiling like the chesire cat like I am now. :p
