Witt Machine clamp on muzzle brake????

I was browsing and came across Witt Machine clamp on muzzle brakes, does anyone have any experience with these? It seems like a good idea PROVIDED they would stay tight, as always safety is the first order of business.

Seen a guy using one at Ridgeway Varmint Silhouette Shoot in Pa. He was very satisfied. Am seriously considering one for a 308.

Found this on another forum. For those who are interested.

i would love to hear from a user. known rifle with known accuracy, and what happens afterwards.
to be real effiecent the bore of the brake needs to be about 20 thou over the rifle bore....very hard to do this with a mass produced clamp on muzzle brake..... bore is not always in the center of the bbl od.....

Here is another choice. I have a Darkmetal-Design Custom Bore, Custom Caliber Clamp On Brake for my unthreaded barrel end .300 Mag. It is custom made to your specs. You have to supply the barrel diameter and caliber to Steve and it is machined for those specs. It has allowed me to be able to shoot my .300 Mag with a big reduction in recoil and barrel climb. It fits tight and has never come off or even come loose. He also makes them in a threaded mount style.

I'm gonna see what one will do. Savage model 12, 308. Shot some groups without it, now I will shoot some from the same batch with it on. Could not have been easier to put on.

Bore measures .345

#1 I have no experience with muzzle brakes, so I don't know what I don't know.

For $89 and being able to do it myself, I would say again, very satisfied. Or in your words, very good. Met or was better than I expected.
Would a threaded one put on by a gunsmith with a tighter tolerance perform better? Probably would.
I wanted reduced recoil without hurting accuracy. I got reduced recoil and doesn't seem to have affected accuracy. I say "seem" because I only shot 4, 5 shot groups so far. So far, excellent results.
Just my 2 cents.

345 minus 308 is 37 as in .037 divide by 2 is .018.....
gentlemen that is not bad for a clamp on brake

glad it has worked out for you.
sounds like a good option for those on a budget or no lathe...or just do not want to thread the bbl
let us know how it works out in the long run

Put one on my Shilen DGR 308 No. 7HV. Works like they say. The only problem I had was Witt says 10 to 14 Days. Mine took 30 +. Was told they had a machine problem. It was worth the wait. Tommy Mc..

I have a Kahntrol on my Rem 700 Varmint. Very happy with it. I did initially have an issue with the brake sliding off the barrel just a small amount. The instructions call for the use of antisieze, but I though loctite would be better. I also didn't torque the screws (they are a very small 7/64" socket head allen screw and I did not have the correct socket to use my 1/4" torque wrench). Since I experienced some unwanted movement, I pulled the screws, used antisieze, and fabricated a custom McGuyver 1/4" drive 7/64" allen socket. Torqued the bolts to a tight 25 in/lb and so far all good. LOVE the Kahntrol, has cut my recoil almost in half. My .308 kicks comprable to an ar-15 with a "hot" load as a comparison.

Here's a pic of my Rem .308 with the Kahntrol brake :

I just ordered a witt machine clamp on brake and the exit hole was drilled with.050" clearance on both sides of the bullet diameter!! I emailed them and I got a reply saying that this will not effect the performance of the brake. I find that very hard to believe. The rifle is a .204 Ruger and I can insert a .308 bullet into the end of the brake?

May not be as good as being a caliber size or two larger, but You’ll be fine. It’s a .204 so you already have minimal recoil.

A dollar to a doughnut you can not tell the difference. Plus if you're unhappy send it back or get rid of it and buy a self timing or a Harrell's radial and get your barrel threaded
