Wind Probes for Bench rest 100-300 yd

Alot of discussion on wind flags, for me I'm sold on the use of flags.

I'm very interested in the wind probe, the two plastic drinking cups stuck together on a graphite rod.

I see several types of wind probes being used, but not very many compared to wind flags. They are more expensive, and the most I will see used is two with a set of flags out to 200 yards. Do they help that much? Where can you get the little spring shock absorber, it looks to be custom made in house.
Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Look in the brc classifieds. I think the guy doing the Beggs design has an add and I'm told he'll sell parts.

I think they do help especially in stiff winds as to let ups. I guess what I'm saying is I use them when not to shoot, & when to get ready?
I use light tails & can't tell when the ribbons straight out if its 10,15, or 20mph.
On light air days I don't pay much attention to them, if I even set them out. Probably a bad habit!

The guy who makes them now is Bob Brooks. He is out of Maine. I can get you his contact if you can’t find it. He makes a large and small probe.

There are others out there that make probes that are a lot cheaper that do the same job. They are more popular up north than down south. When I shoot at Orangeburg, SC their are few probes used and if there are some it's the few shooters from the northeast that venture down there. I've used probes for as long as I have been shooting. They tell you when not to pull the trigger. You also can make probes yourself. They are not that hard to make.

Jim is correct, they are not that hard to make, as I made my own. I also agree they can tell you in what frame to shoot or not, at the distance they are placed. I ended up seldom using them any more since I often shoot to 400 or 500 yds with flags and realized I was focusing on a 50 yard probe and getting caught at a longer distance. Probably my short comings shown. For 100 yd matches or 200 I probably should go back to to them. At times they made shooting well easy.
