Wind and subsonic bullets

I've been messing around with my shooter app. Long story short....... The effects of gravity on sub loads are huge compared to a 3000 fps load. But the wind? Run the numbers. Something doesn't seem right.

More drag?.. My subsonic load loses 23% of its velocity at 1000 yd, my supersonic load loses 48% of its velocity of a 1000 yd.. My little brain says LESS drag on sub.

I agree with you. I bolded the part of my statement that I think is the difference in how you interpreted my post vs what I intended. Lots more to it, too. I was just saying that drag increases as a sub goes faster, is all. Of course, it does so with hyper too, but I think the rate of drag increase relative to the speed is different for sub vs hypersonic.

Most any rimfire shooter will say that faster subsonic ammo drifts more than the slower lots..fwiw.

Again, I think we agree rather than not.

It has to do with pressure and friction at different velocities. If you really want to drive yourself crazy check your numbers at 1000, 1500-2000, and 3000 fps.

Above my pay grade to explain it, but if you shoot in different velocities, you start seeing it.

You might also compare some different bullet profiles. Say a 220 SMK, and a 220 round nose. This is what makes subsonic shooting very interesting.

Maybe you guys should just run the same vacuum vs non numbers with your loads and see what it looks like.
