guys i don't remember this ever happening before . i have a win post 64 super grade i'm guessing 1985 in the shop to rebarrel . first the barrel was epoxied on . i had to cut the shoulder to remove and then needed to remove it with the barrel wrench until the last couple of threads . to my surprise it is an extremely fine thread . some say it is a 1.062 x28 thread but with using an eye loop and thread gauges it doesn't seem to match up . now i can make a couple of external threads on blank rods and try to and match the receiver threads . but does anyone have an answer to the question of what thread it would be ?

Do you have a metric thread pitch gauge? I have only done a couple of Winchesters, Both were post 64 Push feeds, And both were 1 inch 16 TPI. But it wouldn't surprise that there are other thread pitch types out there.

Many people don't know that some Commercial Mauser's had Square threads that were 10 TPI instead of the 12 TPI 55 degree threads that most Mauser's have. These Mauser's had square threads and pitches similar to that of US Springfields and Enfields.

update guys i made a thread blank up out of aluminum 28 threads per inch . works however the epoxy through me for loop . i cleaned the receiver threads out and come to find out a problem exists . starting on the near side and ending on the far side of the gas escape hole about 4 threads are missing about half way around the internal bore . i'm guessing thats why all the epoxy . well now the ball is in the customers court . thanks for all the responses .

I seem to recall that FN produced (post 2006?) M70s were finer thread, but I don't think metric.
my thoughts at first but they didn't macth either . i'm guessing these old eyes need more power on the eye loop. 1.057x 28 threads works .

Presumably, the factory barrel was chambered for some kind of short magnum. Winchester started using the fine thread pattern for them to gain a little chamber wall thickness. Actually, I don't know if the fine thread was exclusive to short mags, but that was the reason.

That makes a lot of sense.

25-06 chamber

Portugal manufacture? I have heard some are/were, and even had metric threads. It's one reason I like the OM.

well its threaded, knowing the amount of epoxy they used. my last thought would be how much torque would this baby take? i'm thinking the reason for the epoxy is because they didn't use much . well on my breaks i'm using about 45-50 lbs on 28 TPI and haven't had any strip so far i'll play by ear . i'll be away from the computer for awhile . thanks for all the feed back .
