Winchester Model 70 WSSM bolt?

I have one of these that was a 223 WSSM. The barrel threads are really fine I think 28tpi or so. I am trying to find a bolt in regular 223 was there ever such a rifle so that I could possibly buy a bolt or were these WSSM's kind of they're own. Thank you

I had one too once upon a time. As far as I could see, they are one-offs. The action is shorter than the standard short-action M70. The WSSM uses a blade ejector too like the pre-64 type but is push-feed while I believe standard S/A models are either a full pre-64 type (Mauser type external non-rotating extractor claw + controlled feed + blade ejector) or not at all (push-feed + recessed plunger ejector set into the bolt-face).

A friend rebarrelled one to 6BR but it needed the bolt face bushed for the smaller case-head diameter (0.473" v 0.550"), and it turned out a very fiddly job with a few other modifications needed before he was through. It made a very accurate 6BR though with a good match barrel on - the super short M70 action turned out to be a very good base.

I suspect that the only way you could convert it to 223 would be to have the bolt-head cut off the body and a new one brazed on.

Yikes that sounds like more money than its worth. I have a CBI 7SAUM barrel on it now I just never shoot it anymore and was thinking of another project rifle. The action is very solid with the recoil lug machined into the action itself....pretty solid. Thank you for the quick reply guess Ill put it away

I would call gre-tan in Colorado and see if he can bush it and put a mini m16 extractor and ejector into it. Then you could get rid of the fixed ejector or leave it to see how it works first.
