Winchester extractor issue

Hi all

I have a winchester 70 action push feed style. It was a black shadow when i got it but i now have it chambered in 25 saum. The problem im having is it will extract the case but when i get the bolt about half way open the bolt will drop the case befor it hits the ejector. Anyone have any ideas on haw to get the extractor to hold the cash tighter? This is a new hunting rig so ejection is some what important.

Thanks in advance and hope all have a great holiday

You say its a push feed but then you mention hitting an ejector?
If its a push feed make the ejector extend out farther from the bolt by lengthening the slot on the plunger. What was it originally chambered in?

It was originally a 270wsm. I dont believe the ejector is the problem. The bolt will let and empty or loaded case drop down befor it pulls it completly out of the chamber. So the bolt will contnue back and the casing will be left sitting half in the chamber and half laying on the next round in the magazine

Replace the extractor, plunger, and spring. Jack First has them. They do wear and break. Also, when it was re barreled, was the bolt face "trued"? It's possible too much was cut away allowing too much play between the face and extractor rim.

You'll need to nip a corner off of theirs to make it compatible to the short mag extractor. Your current one should be like that, just match it.

Wondering if it’s the controlled round push feed, has the sliding plate extractor with the cutout on the bottom of the bolt face. If that’s the case, likely the extractor isn’t pushing hard enough on the side of the case to hold the round on the bolt face.E0EBC895-101C-43EC-A8B4-7C0E33D72BDA.png

Yes its the controled round push feed

Check the case extractor grove diam and distance to bolt face then compare to the old case if you have any . If not check another brand of brass .
