Winchester brass flash holes

Recently came across a few bags of 204 and 223 brass Winchester head stamp. When i began preping them i started to take notice many cases had an oblong flash hole. I have seen this in the past but not the quanity that i found in these bags. Anybody noticing the same issue? I cant even find a contact # to bark any anyone.

I think that what you saw is the punch sliding sideways just before punching thru. I saw the same thing on 284 Winchester brass. But the hole itself is round - hold it up to the light to confirm.

I got a bad couple bags last year about this time. I got the number for Olin, and they had me box the bad ones up and had UPS pick them up....and they sent me a coupon to cover the costs.

They did me right, give them a call and give them a chance.

Can u post the phone # for Olin please

Hell, I've encountered where they didn't even punch a flash hole at all on some Winchester 22-250 brass! That was a tough lesson learned on inspecting brass, cost me a die!

Thanks,
Mike

Seems to be a common condition:

Ditto on the Winchester Flash hole issue, I prepped 500 204R which included flash hole deburring, I had about 75% that left a few shavings, and 10 of them just about twisted my fingers off! I started to inspect each one and found a few more with large burrs inside the case. I wish that I had thought to take a picture. Oh well I still have 500 more to do some day. I'll post what I find then.

I know a lot of members here prompt the use of Winchester brass but the last of two bags of 22 250 brass I purchased had over 10% defects - cold shunts (folds) in the neck and shoulder area making those pieces unusable. I don't like paying for 50 cases and getting 45. >:(

Winchester made good of it when I contacted them so I continued to buy Winchester brass when available. The last batch of 223 brass I purchased only had 5% defects (folds in the neck and shoulder area) - I guess that's improvement of sorts :(

Not saying I won't ever buy anymore Winchester brass but I'm looking for alternatives. Never had this problem with Remington or Federal brass. Lapua is out of my price range.
