Winchester 70 Action rebarreling

Interested in having a Model 70 action (FN actually) with claw extractor re-barreled. Heard it's a lot more work than with a Rem 700 action due to an extractor cutout needed. 300 WSM bolt face. I'd like to rebarrel it in 270 WSM. Anyone want to recommend a smith?

Any real smith will be able to rebarrel . It's a common practice and used on many more actions than the win 70 .
Just ask if he's licensed , insured and not just an savage type builder .

Wheeler Accuracy does excellent work with the Win type actions! What bullet are you shooting, traditional or heavy for cal like the 170 Berger?

Actually I'm moving towards the 7mm WSM or the 7m RSAUM or the 6.5 SAUM. I like the 7mm WSM because of the high BC bullets for 7mm now available.

I have been emailing Wheeler about the action and he says its a basic job for him.

I'd have to have it set up for the longer bullets.

Action was just delivered to my FFL so waiting to pick it up. Want to weight it and the stock before I order the barrel from either Krieger, Broughton, Bartlein, Brux, or Rock Creek. Never new we had the best barrel makers in the world right here in Wisconsin!
