Winchester 1885 accuracy

I have been looking at these new Winchester 1885s on gunbroker I have never have one or shot one but I’m really considering buying one. My question is if anyone on here has experience with the new mirokui 1885s how they shot and how the fit and finish looks.

Mine shoot great. If I remember, I’ll post some target pics this evening.
Fit and finish is excellent. They do leave the wood a little proud, I assume for shrinkage. Based on a 25 year old Browning 1885 I have, they will shrink a bit. Depending on the model, wood can run from plain straight grained to very fancy on the deluxe models. Bluing is perfect. Deep and dark.

Only downside is the trigger. For hunting its fine but for target work they are pretty heavy.
There’s instructions online to remove the trigger and send it to Lee Shaver. I took one out and did some polishing myself and it turned pretty decent.

I broke down and ordered it today lol spent past day going back and forth. I have been looking up allot of info seems I found what you said accuracy is good people say they edge out the ruger #1 by a little as far as factory out of the box goes. I am excited to get it I don’t have much experience with anything single shot.

You didn’t specify, but if your talking about modern cartridges and possibly a scope. Accuracy is probably going to be better out of most factory bolt guns.
Mine are 45-70s and a 38-55 with lead bullets. They are as accurate as my Shiloh Sharps but the sharps has a sweet set trigger.

I only have one ruger no 1. It’s a 308 and is still a work in progress. Has a scope and looks cool but my 38-55 will outshoot it so far

I have an original 1885 circa 1890. The barrel was a wreck as someone tried to re-barrel it. I ordered a Douglas plain Jane barrel .223 Hornet, had it cut to a full length octagon, reduced the trigger pull and went hunting. Works very well out to 200 yds. but that is more the cartridge then the gun.
You'll have a blast!
Mike

Yes it is a modern one I found a new one chambered in 222 which excites me. I know the caliber will shoot once I get a good scope on it I’m excited to see what it’ll do.

My 1885 Low Wall K-Hornet has served me very well, out to 250 yards, it's a "gimmie" on ground squirrels with the old Nosler 45gr Hornet Solid Base bullet over 1680.

I seldom shoot paper except for load development and sighting in, but this is how it did the last time I shot paper and not hair:

These are neat little rifles that are pure fun in the rat patch. One in 222 would be pure joy!

I had one and the trigger was poor. Very difficult to modify without ADs.

That is really impressive

Typical Ruger #1. Very stylish rifle tho.

I bought one of the shot show specials in that much loved 6.5 caliber. Octagon barrel and a beautiful finish. It will shoot with my match gun accuracy wise using the same 140 grain ammo. 1/4 to 1/2 MOA. You wouldn't shoot the volume that you would through a match rifle with a 30 1.25 straight barrel but then it is not a match gun. I love it. So unique when set against the modern plastic rifles.

I'm very happy with my Miroku built Winchester 1885(s). I now own 4, 3 in .22LR and one or 50 built .38-55. The first one I bought was a .22LR and bought based strictly on its appearance. The first time out I couldn't believe how accurate it was. It very easily out-shot my Ruger 77/22 which has had some modifications made to get it to shoot better.
I like the ones made for US Repeating Arms the best because they are visually closer in appearance to the originals. (I also own an original built in 1888 which has been converted from .25RF to .38Special CF)' Below is the result of my first day out with my Miroku built 1885 and my third fully dressed Miroku. That's a replica Malcolm scope on it.

I'm a little late. I have one of these rifled in 40/65. Fit and finish is damn good for a factory gun. It shoots lights out on smokeless or black powder. The best bullet comes out of a
SAECO 540 bullet mould.

I went and took it out over the weekend and really enjoyed shooting it. Only complaint I have is the trigger is absolutely terrible. The lowest I could get the weight down to was about 5 and a half pounds if I can get that fixed it would be a treat to shoot.

Did you have some trigger work done? I have a new 1885 in 17HMR, and of course the trigger needs some work. Did you find someone in the Spokane area that was experienced with the 1885 trigger? I tried using the factory screw but it still leaves much to be desired.

Did you find some one in Oregon that was a reliable trigger man for the 1885? I have a modern manufacture 17 HMR that needs trigger work, I'm in Central Washington. I'm trying not to ship the gun with the UPS and FedX nonsense.

I did not on this one. I did on an Uberti in 45-70 I had. Brocks did the work. This one does not need trigger work. It is heavier than a match gun but good for hunting. Clean break at about 4 lbs.

I have three, a .38-55 Traditional Hunter bought new about twenty-five years. Ten or so years ago, I bought another new Traditional Hunter in .32-40 along with an 1885 in .405. I shoot cast bullets only in these rifles and all guns shoot well. There's nothing wrong with the triggers on any of them

For those who save old copies of HANDLOADER magazine... there's a comprehensive article in #210 (April 2001) on one of the Miroku 1885s in .38-55 with a lot of cast bullet data.

George, "yes", one of our local smiths did the work. I've been using him and his dad for over 35 years with complete success. Shoot me a PM and I'll give you his info. He got the 1885 trigger to about 2.5 lbs with no creep. Love that little rifle.
