Winchester 100 in 284 Win.

I recently found out that one of my sister-in-laws still had her father's hunting rifle (Winchester 100 in 284 Win.) some 30+ years after his passing. In short, the rifle was given into my care for "keeping it in the family". It is a very nice rifle in very good condition. He took good care of it.

Like a lot of other "older" calibers, finding the brass for it is hit and miss and costly... but well worth the work. I finally have the components and have loaded some 139gr bullets in both H and IRM 4350.

Now waiting for a dry weekend to test the loads... as my wife does not like it when I do my shooting from the bedroom window... ;)

By looking at the impressed checkering it looks to be a post '64 rifle, and a very nice one. I believe the 100s had some issues with broken firing springs protruding and causing slam fires. I think Win replaced them with a squarish one. I think you have to take the bolt out to be sure unless you have documented letter that your kin sent it back long ago. I'm not sure if Winchester still does the warranty work on it. Best to ask them.

I have an 88. Had 2, sold one. Really special rifles, and often thought a 100 would be a nice pairing.

Only lever as good was the Finnwolf VL63, or maybe the BLR. The BLR is the only one still with us sadly.
