Win 9mm 115 hp - notched bullets

I mesh-sured a factory loaded Winchester 115gr. hollow point, 1.087 COAL. They are more of a tapered cone than a round bullet. Hope this helped.
Yes, I have not purchased any factory Win 9's. I saw the bag of bullets in a small gs for 16.99, seemed reasonable for jhp. When I seated some to 1.169 they just didn't look correct. I pulled the barrel and cleaned it(Lone Wolf match). I used my borescope to estimate the distance from case month rim in chamber to full height rifling. I came up with 1.135 coal. I seated a few to 1.128. will test a few. Will work towards your factory length, thanks.

Two things limit max length; it's gotta fit in the mag with enough room to slip up, and it has to be short enough to fully chamber when the slide closes. On the short side; not too short to come out of the mag and fully chamber. Determine the shorter of the two max lengths and load a couple dummy rounds, no primer or powder. Load em in a mag, insert into gun and drop the slide. Any problem with them fully loading, then shorten a little and try again. Continue til they seem to work, then load some live rounds. Maybe a mag full of several lengths each a little shorter than the previous. Use a sharpy to write the size on each case. Use a medium powder load to test. Once the length is determined,You can vary the powder for accuracy or power.

Started at 1.169(115 gr hp per Hodgdon) this fit the mag and my ammo checker, pistol didn't like the fit consistently. Saw the much shorter suggested length for Speer GD and Hornady xtp 115's. Thought the Win needed to be seated deeper. But no data available. Than a post with a Win factory rd length.

+1
This is the same bullet that WIN offers in the factory load, so a fair place to start trials is the length they sell. You can then either bring a sample of a medium charge with say five each at different lengths, or play the plunk test game or make dummy rounds and try some dry function tests.

I'm thinkin you should be okay at the 1.087 COAL like Medic505 is showing as a starting point and working up and down from there. Good Luck and in for the range reports.

I played the plunk test game. I normally stick to xtp's as there is a lot of data available. But the gs owner/friend said buy these and shoot up the last bag. I will work down from 1.128 to the factory length, probably in 0.010-0.015 increments.

I shot a couple for function check, I'm going to finish seating to 1.125 and hit them with a light taper crimp. Probably will be stored for shtf ammo, shot right on top of my front sight at 11 yards. Will watch for these in factory ammo, they grouped well.
