Wilson Seater Die, all items required

DennisH

Life Time NRA member
I am going to start using Wilson seater dies.

I know an Arbor Press is mandatory.

I will need the 6br seater die.

What about the seater bushing? Is it required or necessary? Does it come with the Seater Die?

Is there anything else?

Thanks for your help.

Dennis

there is no bushing in the Wilson seater only in the Neck die.

you need the seater, seater base and arbor press.. and if you are going to use the neck die you'll need that, base for neck die and the correct bushing.

Yes the base comes with the die. I recommend you get the micrometer top. If wilson doesnt offer it buy the sinclair micrometer top. It makes life much easier. Thats all you need. I recommend the km arbor press over the others.

I prefer to use Skip's seater die shims...I find it easier to keep track of than the micrometer top.....plus the fact that when you have over a dozen seaters, it gets expensive for all the extra gadgets.
On the separate base, be carefull they are notorious for not being flat on the inside.

NEXT ISSUE:

I just noticed Wilson does not have a 6BRX sizer or seater!

This is the main reason I was going to try a Wilson die, especially the "seater" die.

???

Hi Dennis,hi all

Dennis,in case you effectively want to make the plunge, check 21st Century Shooting arbor press,I have no grudge whatsoever about K&M,Sinclair,Harrell or whoever, but I've done business with John at 21st century and he's real neat, his tools are well conceived and made, and affordable, you might want to read G.Salazar's article about it on this very forum, but of course there are other brands, check "Bald Eagle" arbor press, they look awesome for only $60 at Amazon, try Ebay or Amazon if you're on a budget, don't rush things,a buck is a buck after all...Just my 2 cent...

No Problem, I appreciate the feedback.

Does anybody make a BRX seater die?

I talked to one person who told me they took a BR die and cut it to BRX spec's.

Does anyone know who will do this?

a 6brx chamber reamer can be used to lengthen the wilson die it is not hardened. it just needs a larger bushing to fit the seating stem bore

Not sure what you mean there, I have two wilson dies that I ran my brx ream in and they work great but you can seat bullets with a factory 7/8 threaded br die and I even made a base for my factory wilson br die and it worked fine. Redding makes dies for the 6brx and forum member Robert Whitley sells them.
Wayne.

Wayne,

This is what I am looking for. Take the Wilson 6BR die, run a BRX reamer in it, and you have a Wilson BRX seater die.

Can you help me on this? I am looking for someone to do it. Or hopefully Wilson can do it.

Dennis

I have a similar problem...

I have 6XC and want a wilson seater and would prefer wilson neck die as well.

what wilson dies can I use for the 6XC ?

and is it possible to use the 6XC reamer for the neck die ?

I cut an aluminum die base that was a bit thicker than the Wilson base for my Wilson BR die. I countersunk a hole for the cartridge head that is .100" deeper than a factory base and the seater works great for 6BRX.

This is exactly what I did before I got some redding dies and eventually some custom dies.

Dansig,
I can check but I am sure I used a 22-250 die and ran the ream in it and it works awesome. I have heard of guy's making a sizing die with there chamber ream but I don't see how it is possible because you need it smaller so you size the brass back a little.

Dennis,
Your gunsmith can easily do it and then you won't have shipping charges and all that, my smith did it for me while I stood there and visited him, didn't take long at all, I doubt but maybe wilson would do it.

This is the answer I am looking for.

I will buy the 6BR seater die then get my smith to run his BRX reamer in it.

Then I will have a Wilson 6BRX seater die.

Sizer die, oh well, maybe Wilson will step up to the plate soon.

Dennis,
You don't want a Wilson sizing die, it would only be a neck sizing die,....YUK!!! Robert Whitley sells a redding 6brx sizing die, I also think John Whiddon sells them now, I may have Two Reddings I usually never sell anything but if I have two I would sell you one if you wanted it but it isn't neccessary, your gunsmith can do this for you in about 5 minutes, have him mill a small block 1"sq. maybe down to .100 thick, screw your factory 6br die down till it touches run a lubed case into the die, check for bump and slowly turn your die in until desired bump is met, this will generally be at about .098, you don't have to have the spacer block it is just handy, then take any f/l sizing die or body die in the .308 family and size the lower body of your case with it and you now have just as good of a sized 6brx case as with a 6brx die it just requires a couple extra steps.
Wayne.

Wayne, I have a sizer die I am happy with. There's not much of a neck on a BRX to deal with anyway.

I just looking for a good seater die and they say Wilson has about the best seaters. Just need a BRX.
