wilson inside neck reamers

this is a great tool for uniforming the inside neck. i reamed quite a few last week and the next day my right hand about killed me...pure and simple, muscle strain from turning the finger operated handle. the round handle comes off and i thought the removable crank handle from the wilson trimmer cutter, since it comes off, would fit it and allow a more efficient twisting of the reamer...no way, it doesn't fit! is there a a crank-type handle to fit the reamer? i can have a machinist make one but i would have thought that wilson would have offered one, if not, why? this reamer does a fantastic job on donuts, but my old hand can only take so much. thanks.

The tool design may work better with the knob versus something with less "feel." As I understand it, the reamer is designed to follow the inside of the neck and take a very light skim. I've done thousands of cases with mine and it seems that a light touch is needed to avoid taking too much metal and making the neck uneven. I agree that something easier on the hands would be an improvement but only if it could be done without creating a different problem.

I started out using the Wilson but I now use the Forster reamer in their Original Case Trimmer. http://www.forsterproducts.com/store.asp?pid=26888
I use the Wilson with the Sinclair micrometer for case trimming and its great. Both these brands and tools work well but the Forster really saves getting blisters on your fingers when doing lots of reaming.

Ian,
Would you be so kind as to tell me what the shank diameter of the Forster reamer is?
I have a Redding trimmer and would like to use the Forster reamer if it fits.
Thanks, Mike

Since Ian is in Australia, i took the liberty of measuring the shank. It measures .186. It does have a flat for a set screw.

Much appreciate the help folks.
Plus its good news because the Forster reamer should fit in my Redding case trimmer cutter.
I love this place! Thanks, Mike

Sorry for not getting back to you but I missed the post! PM me anytime if I dont get back to the thread with an answer your needing. Glad you got the info you were after.

I just discovered the Forster 3 in 1 trimmer which trims and performs inside and outside case chamfer. It doesn't look like my Wilson trimmer will get much work in the future.

Ian

Ian,
Thanks for the offer.
Funny you should mention the Forster 3 in 1 trimmer attachment because that will fit my Redding lathe also. The cutter on the Redding Model 1400 has the same thread (3/8-24tpi) as the Forster so I don't need to buy a second lathe.
