Wilson Combat Spring Kit for a S&W J Frame Revolver

Was thinking of installing a spring Kit for my carry revolver , a S&W mod.49 all steel 38 spl. Not looking to turning into a target trigger just smoothing the trigger . Is there anyone out there that did a trigger job on their carry J Frame?

I did one on my K frame snubby years ago. No spring changes, just smoothed all of the milling marks and polished some surfaces. The trigger was always very nice, so not much work was needed.

I have been very pleased with the results. Reduced the pull slightly in both single and double action, but still consistent and much smoother with a clean break.

I would caution you to go slowly and do not remove any more material than absolutely necessary to get a smooth surface. Revolvers are easy to screw up and can easily be made unsafe. Resist the urge to use a Dremel. Stones for this are a good investment. Check you work frequently and do not change any angles!

Trigger jobs can be very rewarding when done well. Good luck, and have fun.

I bought the kit but after changing the return springs I went back to the original , polished up the block by hand with " Mother's Metal Polish " I don't want to play around with a carry revolver. Don't want a light trigger I rather a smooth heavy one after all.

Your question is about the J frame so I will only comment on that. Since the J frame has a coil mainspring to put more impact on the geometry of the hammer falling, it is recommended to leave the spring as is and especially in a J frame rimfire caliber. The Wilson spring may or may not be reliable. The block may be polished and the block spring changed out but again, be careful with springs and J frames. Any stoning on contact surfaces need to be left to the experienced or you can quickly ruin a part.
