Wilson case trimmer question

Is it possible that all one's cases not fit in the Wilson case holder the same way? For consistency, does Wilson state that all cases have to be FL sized to fit in their holder correctly? I see that Sinclair offers a "hold down" for the case holder. Is it much better than not having one?

My cases (7,62X53R) will not "hold" firmly in the Wilson case holder if they are FS or virgin cases. However my case holder is designed for the 7,62X54R which is slightly larger but I do not have this problem with 53R fire formed cases. Those will hold securely. To counter the loose FS or virgin case issue all I do is wrap a thin sheet of paper completely around the case body (without overlapping the paper) and then insert it into the case holder. The case is held firmly and the paper will usually stay in the holder after the case is removed. Typically I seldom FS. I only bump the shoulders back about by about .002 or so. I have the hold down lever and it works great. Better than using your hand to hold the case holder.

It shouldn't matter if all your cases do not fit the same way. As long as they don't spin while you are cutting all should be good.

If you are asking because you think there will be variations in length after trimming then you need not worry as no matter where the case sits in its holder the case head still stops at the same point resulting in very consistent results.

I've been using my left hand to hold the shell holder w/ case for trimming for a long time even before these hold-downs were available w/ no problem--hold down and against the stop and you will get very uniform lengths.

now that you've said it, I wonder why I hadn't thought that myself. Aging is a bitch.
