Wilson 6BR FL Bushing die Help

Dimner

I do believe in Captain Crunch.
I just received my FL bushing die in the mail today. I bought the 'Match' version. 6BRM. Turns out the die is considered a 'small base die' Looking at the product description where I bought it, there was not any info on what the match designation entailed. Will I experience shorter brass life with a small based die? Or perhaps the non 'match' version is also small based and the 'match' designation means something else?

I like to draw the case outline and compare sizing numbers from fired to re sized, I really don’t want or need more than a couple thousandth reduction at the case shoulder junction or the base( .200 ). Beyond that is just overworking the brass.

That's a great Idea. I do not have the rifle built yet, so I cannot compare those numbers. But if I interpret your guidance.... it's telling me to use the normal die not the 'match' die to start with. Does that sound right?

I’ve never heard of a small base die being considered a match die, the opposite should be true where the die is moving brass very little but It really depends on the finish reamer being used, you may want to wait and see what reamer dimensions the guy cutting the chamber can provide. Either way Wilson is good about tech service and information, even honing a die out a wee bit.

I appreciate the insight. thank you!

You already have that die bought, do like JFrank said and draw out the cartridge case, measure unfired, then when you get your rifle measure fired case then re measure after sizing and see how much your having to size. You shouldn’t ever grow much at all at the .200 line if you do your over pressure, the small base die will then be what you need to get rid of clickers, at the shoulder neck junction I agree with jfrank I don’t want to see more than maybe .002 reduction

Ahh gotcha. I have a micrometer, two actually, one for necks (vernier/ball) and one of outside measurements (tube). So that's a good step one.

However, I'm not sure how I can use a tube mic to get the diameter reading right on the 0.200 line. Perhaps you can point me to a pic of how it's done?
I’m on the road now but if somebody doesn’t I will later no problem

I appreciate that. And I will admit, at first I was confused and thought we were talking shoulder bump. Then I realized 0.200 has nothing to do with the shoulder and we are talking about the base of the brass. Not sure why my mind switched to shoulder bump.

I guess my remaining question is how to get right on the 0.200 line to measure with the tube mic. Is a measurement and a sharpie mark all we are talking about. And some +/- 0.010 variation not a big issue?

Before getting too strung out on stuff...check with Wilson to see what the difference is. Interestingly, Wilson doesn't show a 'Match' die for several chamberings that normally have a small base die as an option.

Unless you know the reamer info, it's hard to say what die you really need. Whoever did the barrel can tell you what die(s) work with the chamber they did.

Doing some further digging I found where someone asked Wilson about the differences.

"Our 6mm BR Match FLD’s will size to .4665 at the base

The 6mm BR Norma FLD’s will size to .4698 at the base
"

Also someone mentioned that the small based die was invented for the 6br Remington brass. Not sure if that is

Sorry, my reply was cut off...

Not sure if the info on the intent is accurate, but it's what I found. I'll ask about the reamer and see what comes up. Thanks!

What seems odd to me is the ( match die) sizing .4665 at the .200 line when the typical 6 br reamer is .4714 with a couple as small as .470 . I would not want a match die that sizes .0035-.004 at the .200 line ?
That’s one hell of a lot of resistance.
