Click on the above link and you can watch a 90 pound 6 Dasher being shot at Williamsport.
I sold my 65 pound 6BR and 68 pound 300 Ackley to a guy who made a 65 pound 6 Grendel out of one of them.

I'm amazed by some of the replies in this thread,1000 yard BR shooting started at Williamsport with HG's only!!There were no Lg's just the big heavy guns, there is no restriction on weight -again-the class is called HEAVY GUN,the 90lb dashers dont always win,I 've seen 17lb 300wsms beat'em in the heavy gun match.
Yes I agree that shooting that fast will level out the conditions but-not always.
I shoot a 70lb ln 300 WSM as my HEAVY GUN and can get my rounds down range in 20-25 seconds, and it doesn't always win.I guess what I'm getting at is if you have your gun tuned you can compete with the HG's.Go back a few years ago when Jason Baney won HG overall at the World Open using a LG in a 6mm BR,he beat alot of real good HG's that weekend.
Also that thread posted by Lynn, John Buhay's dasher is around 50 lb not 90lb.

I SHOOT HG AT THE RANGE EVERY MATCH AND MY GUNS WEIGHT 65 LB 300 WSM LIKE MATTS AND THERE IS A LOT MORE THAN JUST PULLING THE TRIGGER!!

BUT I NEVER SEEN A 8000.00 REST !!

Matt,

I apologize if any of my responses offended you or anyone else. My intent was not to take anything away from the HG shooters. The guns are impressive machines, and there are skilled shooters sitting behind them. Like you said, if I had my gun/load tuned better, I would have a much better chance at keeping up with the heavies. All I need to do is find more time to dedicate to it... I don't know how you guys do it?

Also... I'm still laughing at you holding that big slice of watermelon, while the other guy (don't know his name) was swinging at it with that huge knife! haha!

Walt , his name is Jim Lorenz, and I'm sure glad the result of the watermellon cutting was me holding 2 pieces:) haha.
No offense taking just throwing out so info, ideas, and a little BS.

As an aside- the rules for Williamsport heavy guns is now identical with all other clubs now that the IBS has approved muzzle brakes. The guns you saw at Williamsport can be seen at most ranges across the country.
Many of the remarks about the heavy guns at Williamsport are by the uninformed.

I will say the conditions at this past world open were probably the squirreliest (is that a word) I have seen there in the 10 years I have been doing this. The vast spread from highest score to lowest and largest group to smallest is something that I have never seen. There is no real good explaination for this except: It is Williamsport."

As for the 10second shooting heavy gun. It is definitely not "marksmanship" in the classic sense, but the system still has to be appreciated. 44 years ago when it was conceived at Williamsport the intention was to see who could shoot the smallest 10-shot group. Heavy gun is not NASCAR...it is all out to shoot the smallest group. 3 bullets in the air at once out of a bolt gun is pretty awesome no matter how you slice it :)
