Will this work?

So I was just given a really nice 7mm Rem Mag in a Remington 700 with a nice Lija barrel. I'm not really particular to the 7mm rem mag, so I was wondering if a conversion to a 7mm SAUM was possible.

I'm not a smithy, but I would guess this would involve cutting off the first half inch or so of the barrell, the SAUM case is about 1/2' shorter than the REM Mag), re-threading that end to fit the action, and then reaming out the barrel to fit the fatter SAUM cartride.

Is this even possible? Has anyone done anything similiar? Any help would be appreciated.

yes it is doable and you got what go's on down to. one thing you might want to keep in mind after you set the barrel back that much what about the gap that's left between the barrel and stock? if you plan on restocking it's no biggie but if not and it's a wood stock it's really going to look bad.
