Just curious from some of you fellas that might know. Will a 10 twist 6mm barrel shoot a 95gr Berger vld bullet, or do you need a 9 twist? Thanks lee

My Savage .243 1-9.5" (older model) shoots them decently, but is much better with a shorter bullet, like the 90gr BT or 88gr FB. I think it's just barely stable, as they aren't the most consistent either. I'm done trying them, after 60+ rounds they still won't shoot. Going to wait and save them for my 1-8 6BR.

The 90's and 88's shoot great anyway.

Good luck

Kenny

Mine will. It is a 6BR 28" 1:10 Krieger. Shoots them well. Walt Berger told me about half will and half wouldn't for the 1:10s in a correspondence.

Luck and Merry Christmas to all, Tim

Depends on the bbl and load. I got a tikka that will, but barely. the 87s shoot really well though so it wont be an issue for me any longer.

It is probably on the edge. Stability is somewhat sensitive to velocity, but more sensitive to ambient temperature and elevation (barametric pressure). So, at higher elevations and higher temps it may shoot. But it may not at lower elevations and temps -- i.e. thicker air.

If you have bullet dimensions you can see the effect of velocity, temperature, and pressure with this calculator. Be sure to enter you 10 twist which is an optional field. Scroll down to see the calculated graph for a 10 twist in the output screen.

Lee,

I had a 6BRBS (6BR IMP) 10 twist that shot them great, out to 1000 yds. I have a 6BR that is throated too long for 95 VLD's, but will shoot the 95 BIB.s 90 BT Berger's great. I am trying a new twist for me, 8.5. Alot of the 600 yd guys have been shooting 8.5 for a long time, It will shoot 105's great. I would do an 8.5 and shoot everything. Got mine from Mike Davis, and had him install it. http://www.accurateshooter.com/forum/index.php/topic,3756028.0.html

Skeet,
Bought a Varmit rifle used from a friend with a 1-10 twist on it.
This lilja 1-10, 243ack barrell shoots 5 of the 95gr berger vld hunting version @200yds @3300 fps in a .307 hole,(Sub.1 Group) W/ 46.5 RL17 and I am not a benchrest shooter.
Have not shot much slower. Was going to change the barrel to a 8 twist but decided to just shoot 95 vld's in this one. ;)

Yes it will, it's just right on the edge. My Cooper is a 1-10, chambered in 6-284 and shoots the 95gr Berger VLD very well. Problem is that not all 1-10's are created equal, some fudge on one side or the other. Mine might be a 9.8" and someone else's a 10.2" and both are labeled a 1-10 by the manufacturer. Also I'm shooting at a higher speed than someone shooting a 243 or 6BR.

No, that's why Berger came out with the 87 gr. VLD's
I checked out Bergers bullets page and didnt see any 87 grn bullets ??? Is this some new product there not yet updated on???

Yep:

http://bulletin.accurateshooter.com/2010/11/berger-introduces-new-87gr-6mm-vld-for-110-twist-barrels/

Some vendors have them in stock now too; I just checked two mainstream outlets.

My 10:1 Krieger Custom Octagon loves the 95gr VLD's as a matter or fact it shoots single hole groups at 100 yds and does it with either Varget or RL15 repeatability.
