wildcat an option?

This might be a crazy idea and you'll have to excuse my ignorance...

Although apparently Remington designed the Saum cartridges to fit the model 7 In practice this is not really the case if you want to seat 160 grain amax or similar "pointy" projectiles such as the hornady SST out to the lands or close to it and feed out of the short action mag (about 2.825 inches). It has been pointed out to me that even if I design a reamer and go virtually no freebore I will be struggling to get a reamer that will allow me to seat bullets to the lands over the life of the barrel. Also no freebore is apparently not a good thing due to pressure issues and having a significant proportion of the projectile below the neck shoulder junction is not ideal.

It got me thinking that maybe one option would be to create a basic wildcat whereby I reduced the length of the case to the shoulder by 200-250 thou and perhaps go with 100-120 thou freebore. I thought this might give a reduced case capacity down to something close to a .284. The 7mm saum has a nominal case capacity of 73.5 grains and the .284 is 66 grains.

The reason I thought about going with the same basic case shape as the 7mm saum is that in theory (i know nothing about wild-catting) I might be just able to trim 200 thou or so off my redding body die and the bottom my lee collet neck die and I would be good to go. I was hoping that at the worst the body die might need a hone at the base to stop it oversizing the base. The only thing I don't like about this idea is the possibility that something very ugly might happen if someone was to fire one of these shortened cartridges in a saami chamber. Would it simply fireform or would casehead separation occur?

Anyhow I'd be interested to hear your thoughts and if this was a feasible or crazy idea. If it was any idea's what would it cost to get a die or dies set up to do the case forming.

Also would I need to order a reamer or could I use an existing reamer and have the gunsmith only run it into the chamber to the depth/case length I am looking for? I notice that bolt face width on a 7mm saum reamer print I have it says the diameter is .551 200 thou further up the case is marked as .549. Is it possible to size the base of a case 2 thou without damage, how much do small base dies size brass out of a loose chamber?

Again excuse my ignorance!
