Why? SFP scopes scarcity

I've heard a lot of talk, about ranging with FFP scopes.
Yet the sniper wannabe's don't realize that typically there is a power setting on a SFO scope that allows you to range like a FFP.
It's just not the whole range of power available.

I'll agree with the Sightron SIII.
I picked one up used from here. 10-50X60 LRTD with 1/8 MOA clicks.

Yup whatever power the reticle subtends correctly on a SFP scope can be used to range or use it for corresponding elevation or windage holds as well. Only problem is that that power may not be the power you want to be on to take a shot due to FOV or heavier mirage or due to mirage that power may not work for ranging with the target being blurred out with mirage waves and not giving clear edges to get a reading from.

Also ranging is just not with mil scopes as you can mil with moa scopes as well. Just a different formula or different side on the Mildot Master.

Agree!
I still have a few BDC scopes.
But for the most part I have been changing over to MOA reticles.

I do have 2 older Redfield Revenge scopes that use the power adjustment to range with.
Use the cross hair at the bottom of the chest, or on the ground for coyotes. Then above the cross hair there are I think 3 small lines. 8", 16", 25". Think gopher, deer, elk. The 25" used for elk is also used for coyotes. For them you put the cross hair on the ground at their feet and then use the power ring to align with their back.

At the top of the reticle is a line that moves up and down as the power ring rotates. Line goes through numbers 2-6.

Cross hair zero is 200 yards. Where your line stops on the numbers is the distance that you hold for.
Crank power to max (12) hold and shoot.

Note, that your ballistics needs to match the BDC to work properly.

When I got hooked on shooting prairie dogs 25 years ago most all my optics were inexpensive SFP that maxed to around 20X. They had target type turrets and duplex reticles along with parallax adjustment on the Objective lens. Today ALL those PD safer scopes are still around 20-25X with target (tactical) turrets but as @Tommie inferred they are all side focus. Most of them are SFP scopes but there are a couple FFP's in the mix and most are MOA. I am comfortable with both SFP and FFP and these days more comfortable with mrad turrets/reticles. As @Rob01 pointed out I can range and adjust more accurately and quickly using the FFP/mrad scopes and , even on rimfire rifles, prefer them over all others.
Those recommending that Argos scope are not picky about having huge reticles that block vision or adjustments that don't track true, IMO. I had one and I agree with @Bill Norris that it was not of even marginal quality.

Yeah I think I’m gonna punt on the Chinese stuff. I bought a couple s3’s and I know what they are for sure so should be happy.
