Why I will always be a Whidden die advocate

I like wildcatting cartridges. I have 5 now and have sent reamer prints to Whidden for custom dies. I recently had a case head strip off and i could not get the case out of the die. I called Whidden and was told not to panic, just send them the die. They recieved it on Monday and i got it back today! It was polished and looked new. There was no invoice so i called and was advised that there was no charge! Needless to say, i will remain a customer...my next die is being made by Whidden Gunworks.

Since my buddy and I have matching Lilja barreled 22-250's for hunting(I have the Manson 0.025 freebore reamer) would/should I get a custom die? My smith headspaced so both produce fired brass that measure the same. I reload for both rifles.

I think a quality off the shelf die will work for you. Yes having a custom die made from your brass will yield “perfect” results. But I don’t think you’ll see a benefit. If a custom Whidden is what you desire then go for it!

I’m far happier with my Wilson FL dies then I have ever been with a Redding.
