Why have a barrel channel at all?

I have a Blackhawk Axiom stock for my favorite 22-250 hunting rifle. No shifting, lightweight, bags or bipod no poi change. Length of pull adjustment. Not needed but has a recoil reducing system also. Is nothing to look at, so I spray painted it white for winter.
