Why don't people build off Kimber 84's?

I've built quite a few custom and semi-custom rifles for myself and others and have used everything from Mauser, to 700's to Stiller's. Just wondering why more people don't use the 84 series actions for custom/ semi-custom hunting rifle builds.

The only thing I don't like about them is that they are a little skinny in the action, but the rest of it, I like. CRF, coned bolt/ breach, lightweight, 3 position 70 style safety.

Tossing around using an action for a 20 tac build. Ether that or a predator action.

I think all the reasons you listed as a plus may be why- what some folks like others dont. Control round feed is very limited in application. You cant just drop a round in and close the bolt on most. 3pos safety- why would you want that except a hardcore hunting rifle? Like control feed its a limited market. Trigger availability? Stock selection? Tolerances and ability to true up to get a reliable measurement? Aftermarket parts like floorplates/magazines. Theyre like building a custom rifle on a ruger or browning action- very limited customer base

I re-barreled a 84 for a customer about a year ago. It's just like Dusty listed, lack of aftermarket support. I will add, forget it if you need any factory replacement parts. Kimber wants you to send them the rifle for repair, they won't sell you the parts to repair your rifle if you should need them. We needed a stock. Nope! Couldn't buy a replacement from Kimber... Sweet little light weight hunting rifle, but the lack of aftermarket and factory support limits what can be done to "personalize" your rifle.

As a stock rifle, the Kimber's are nice. As something to customize, as Shortgrass mentioned, I would not want CRF as I like to single load.

I get that. I modify all my CRF rifles so they click right over with little effort. 50-60% of my shooting with crf rifles is single feed. Not an issue for me I guess.

The more I think about it, maybe a rebarrel would be ok, but I definitely see the benefits from using a custom action.

Other than handling a few, I've never busted one apart to try and improve it, but just seemed like a good candidate for a hunting rifle.

They are a very good candidate for a stock hunting rifle. But if i was to want a little custom action off a stock lightweight hunting rifle id use a dakota for a donor. You get remington pattern triggers then.
