Why are the private ranges closing?

I’m a member at two clubs and one is closed. The other is quiet when I go, which has been twice since last month. I do reloading stuff and try to not spend money right now.

Ranges need full-time RSO control. Without it, the general public is vicious and immoral. Shooters are just a slice of society you know?

We get a variation of malicious behavior all the time, even with RSO control. Put a wind flag on a bank up high and it is shot. A guy blasted a hole in my Target Vision camera WAY OFF his sooting lane, like 5 benches away. He saw it on the ground and took some "pot shots". After discovery he denied and refused responsibility in spite of the evidence. Nothing I could do but pay for a new camera repair.

At Manatee we had a club steel match scheduled for this Saturday and a paper match scheduled for the following. We are NOT having the matches done in a formal manner. I informed our shooters that if they chose to go to the open club, we will make some steel targets available for their usage. No way would we solicit people to assemble for a formal shoot that would violate the 10 person assembly.

Ranges are considered "essential business" in Florida. Our ranges can be open. You just cannot put 10 or more people into a group so best not encourage any formal event. The shoots are "officially" cancelled.

Our world as we once knew it sadly has changed. I believe as competitors in all forms of the shooting community we need to find a way to continue to promote our disciples safely. As a mature adult if it means wearing a mask and maintaining social distance, Ok. Things are going to change. Range policies will, and should, be put into place to protect our members but also show the public we care. Club boards should be right now working out these policies. Simple things like assigning set range time, shooting on every other bench could be a start. Collectively as a group we should be able to figure this situation out.

There are a lot of irresponsible people out there that don't care about anything but themselves (The Me Generation). Sadly, this has not only affected the young but like a virus, many adults have succomb to this way of thinking. Maybe from the, "If I can't beat them, join them" concept of they just feel empowered to act out with the crowd.

A statement in the movie Men In Black always struck me with a ring a truth. "A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky dangerous animals and you know it.". Add to that they are sheep in crowds.

Email from my club Thursday, flood water is down, range is open. Maintain social distancing, social events postponed. I went and shot some 20p Friday, one other rifle shooter. My 10 day social distancing went by the wayside Wednesday, on the way home, 80 something man down in his driveway struggling to getup. Can't drive by someone in need, I stopped and got to him. Asked if he was hurt, said his new shoes tripped him and couldn't getup(cane in one hand). He was on hands/knees, I asked again if he was hurt and if he wanted to stand with help. I had him by shoulder and hip area of his coat, he was very shaky. His wife came out and asked what happened, I said I didn't know, saw him down as I drove by. She started telling him she didn't know why he needed new tennis shoes. He told me then he wasn't hurt and wanted to stand, so I lifted and helped him up, tall man but thin. Helped him to front door, he was much steadier. Told his wife, I would wait a step back and catch him if he stumbled.

That is what being a human and a servant of God is all about. You are a true gentleman and an American.
