Why are people selling off the new NF Competition 55x scopes?

F-TR obssessed shooting junkie
I've seen a inordinate number of new 55x NF scopes for sale, one poster even offering to trade for a 42X BR. Is there something that people aren't liking? I'm sort of in the market for another F class scope and I was really leaning toward the NF but this has me scratching my head. Other than only having 5MOA per rev on the windage turret did NF miss with this one?

When I first got mine, it took a while to get used to 55 power. Also, several people have said they do not like the dot.

Are these people who used the NP-2DD in the past? (I have 2 and they are my favorite target reticle)

Who knows why they're selling? I think the comment about the reticle choice may be the best guess.

I have one now and another on order. The optics are a huge improvement over the NXS and they are lighter. I first used mine for two weeks of intense competition in South Africa where we were shooting 300, 500, 600, 800, and 900 meters almost every day and dealing with some significant winds. It was absolutely reliable the whole time.

If I had to guess, since I do not own one, I would guess this: I have looked thru the Competition series and they are nice, however, with MY eyesight I could not discern the difference in clarity or resolution from a Competition series and my BR series. On another thread here, one other Forum Member stated he could tell the difference but "only by a nose".. When "the heat of the day comes" and with that, comes horrendous amounts of mirage (I call them "heat-waves"), you must turn the power down or you will think you are peering thru a swimming pool. You still need to see the heat-waves, however, not to such a degree that it impedes your sight picture. So unless you have HEAVY cloud cover, you can only use 55 power for a very limited time during the competition. Having said all that, I believe the "realization" has set in that 55 power and 2200+ bucks is more than one bargained for. You can sell these scopes and get a BR, used, (which in most cases is as good as new) and pocket 600+ bucks! In my "not so humble opinion" if NightForce quit making the NXS, they should have kept the price at or even a tad below an NSX and I doubt you would see so many selling their Competition scopes!

thinking I wanted one I called several sellers asking why !all replied "do not like the dot " one decided I have not shot enough and decided not to sell to me ! I thank him for his honesty !

So it would be good in Western Washington 49 weeks out of the year!

Hey SLM, I bet it would be GREAT there! However, in S.E. Texas, it is just about the opposite of western Washington! LOL!!!

You must live in a different part of Washington than me ?

Note that he said "western Washington." Are you saying that an area classified as temperate rain forest is dry? [br]
And, no, I live in San Diego. We average 9" rain per year.

There is no need to get upset over geography... In WESTERN Washington, it is constantly raining or threatening to rain>>> which translates to BOTH humidity AND cloud cover. In Houston (S.E. Texas) we have more than our fair share of humidity, however, unless it is raining or just about to rain, we don't have heavy cloud cover on any sort of a regular basis. We do have HEAT on a VERY regular basis... I have seen "heat waves" (mirage) so bad at times you could not hold inside the 10 ring and the 9 ring was difficult! I had to lower my power on my scope down to 20 power to see where to shoot! I hope this clears up the geographical idiosyncrasies!!

Short and very critical eye relief for one, and the other is over rated power. Side by side with my NXS image size to be the same the comp. had to be around 50 with the NXS at 42. The comp.was darker and not as clear at 1000 yds. It did shoot as good at 100 yds. as the NXS but for free recoil, i didn't like it. I didn't like the 5 min per rev. for long range in the wind. Weight was the big plus....... 6 oz. over the NXS........ jim
