Clarence Hammonds in Red Lion, PA. A friend of mine, William Paulson, Jr., has been doing pretty well at Bridgeville, DE and Mifflin. Clarence built Bill's rifle. Any of the above would be good choices as well as they are all top shelf gunsmiths. Alot of my decision,s) are based on being within driving distance of the gunsmith. I've used Clarence, he's close, and does excellent work.

Thanks guys! I wish I could just buy one rifle from each company, but I'm also looking to buy a new motorcycle, you know for those hot summer days the girlfriend doesn't want to go to the rifle range)

Thanks again, keep the info coming in plz. The money is burning a hole in my pocket.

After talking with Jim Borden, I'm going to go with a Borden. I'll post picture of my new rifle in about 4 months! lol...

I'm not sure what I need to do now... I did receive an email from "someone" that really made me re-think getting a Borden. Now what???

Well,

Just to break another 1 of your choices; Mike Bryant isn't taking any guns right now. He is building a house & devoting the time to it. Prolly be a few months before he takes anymore.

I think any of the mentioned smiths or anyone else on the "TOP GUNSMITHS" page would do a good job. Some even have an accuracy guarantee.

another vote for clarence hammond in PA. he built the 6ppc i shoot it's a great shooter.

Talk to Billy Dale at BDR Custom Guns. He does great work and gets them out fast. He has built many winning rifles. Ph 804 314 6787 or 804 798 8938

A friend has just had an action barreled by Clay Spencer, and he is very pleased. He found him to be very easy to deal with, delivering his work as promised, on time.

Shooters
Seems we are playing favorite gunsmith day here but that's ok.
Smiths that I can mention out West that have produced winning guns in short range and up to 600 are to name a few: Gary Ocock, Gene DeLoney, Stu Harvey, Don Nielson, Lester Bruno, Tom Sakai, Steve Kostanich. This is a short list, no-way being the only list. These are smiths that will do work for you some smiths only do for themselves and are just as good such as Lowell Frei, used Frei guns he sells get snapped up at Shoots he display them at.
One that I didn't mention because he is surfacing now as a known smith is Mike Sosenko. Mike has smithed guns that have won recent State Championships such as his own at Pala, Dan Capp's State Sporter Championship rifle, John Verhagen's Pala guns along with Lawrence Weisdorn's National Championship barrel's.
All the smiths mentioned in the previous Posts are doing BR quality work. You as a shooter have to establish a business relationship with whoever you choice to do your work. Keep things business from the get go and you won't end up on here telling stories that may not bode well with other customers of the same smith doing their work. Shoot straight clean often.

A good gunsmith is like a tailor. Establish a rapport, make sure you communicate exactly what you want, and I like to be able to walk into the guy's shop; just something about face to face encounters that establish good rapport. Make sure you do your homework first so that your dialog can be meaningful and you know what you want the end result to be. A good gunsmith will steer you in the right directions, make recommendations, tips, etc. and deliver the product you envisioned. Some may be a little gruff but that just shows they have some character.
