Who won the Ko2M...

Derek Rodgers won by a large margin and was also the only competitor to get a hit at 3,368 yards. The Applied Ballistics team got the team win for the 3rd year running. Here are the top 25 or so places picked up from various people on Facebook19598607_369962290068559_3107503567243602191_n.jpg

Amazing to get a hit on this size of target at one mile never mind two in windy conditions .... and 13 competitors did it in the 1,888 yard stage, some even on the first shot. Really humbling!

Somewhere or other I have an article on an annual ELR comp that took place in the Scottish Highlands or Islands every summer many decades ago using 303 cal rifles, but the target was literally the size of a house.

Laurie,
I have a friend from Scotland, Jon Hammond. Jon is the rifle coach at West Virginia University. He is a great young man and his rifle teams have dominated the NCAA the last few years. Jon used to shoot with the UK National team and still may do that.

Did they use Ed Hubel's 585 case for the parent cartridge?

Not sure if the 375 Lethal Magnum is derived from Ed Hubel's 585 case, but here is what the top 10 were shooting.

Derek Rodgers won shooting a 375 Cheytac cartridge with Cutting Edge Bullets, 2nd Ronnie Wright shot a 416 Barrett, 3rd Walt Wilkinson shot a 50 BMG, 4th Mitch Fitzpatrick shot a 375 Lethal Magnum, 5th Garrett Fravert shot a 50 BMG, 6th Dan Pohlabel shot a 338 LM Improved, 7th Paul Phillips shot a 375 Lethal Magnum, 8th Duncan Davis-not sure but either a 416 or 50 BMG, 9th David Griffith-pretty sure his was a 416 Barrett, 10th Randy Powell shot a 50 BMG.

The winds were decent, even for Raton on day one & two. Day three for the finals was a switching tailwind that was switching very quick later in the day. Only four shooters out of ten hit steel on the first target at 2,667 yards.

Congrats to Derek and the entire AB Team for a very professional performance all 3 days!

Dan

Here are the derivations of the Hubel 585 case. When necked down to 375 it can become either the Warlord or the Lethal Magnum. IIRC the case capacity is about 190 grains of H2O.

SCORING

ON TARGET 1 ( 5 rds MAX on target 1)
• FIRST ROUNDS HITS WILL COUNT YARDAGE X 5
• SECOND ROUND HITS WILL COUNT YARDAGE X 4
• THIRD ROUND HITS WILL COUNT YARDAGE X 3
• FOURTH ROUND HITS WILL COUNT YARDAGE X 2
• FIFTH ROUND HITS WILL COUNT YARDAGE X 1

ON TARGETS 2 to 4 ( 3 rds max on target 2 to 4)
• FIRST ROUNDS HITS WILL COUNT YARDAGE X 3
• SECOND ROUND HITS WILL COUNT YARDAGE X 2
• THIRD ROUND HITS WILL COUNT YARDAGE X 1

EXAMPLE OF a TARGET SCORING (FOR EXAMPLE AT 1870 YARDS )

TOP SCORE ON TARGET 2 CAN BE
First round hit = 1870x3= 5610 points
+ Second round hit = 1870x2= 3740 points
+ Third round hit = 1870x1= 1870 points
PLUS TIME BONUS

WORST SCORE WILL BE : 0 POINTS
NO First round hit = 0 points
NO Second round hit = 0 points
NO Third round hit = 0 points
NO Time bonus FOR having used time (seconds used deduced from max) = 0

I do like how it is scored.

Here is what Eduardo posted on the Ko2M FB page:

There has been some interest in the target sizes so here they are :
Coldbore: 16" Gong
1550-24x37,
1715-24x37,
1890-30x37,...
1990-30x37,
2670-33x41,
3026- 42x54,
2M- 48x60

If you ask why those odd measures... its the steel we have !!.
If any of our fans want to donate some steel targets we will be most happy to accept the donation.
BTW
We dont need AR500 thick plate as the bullets get there with little energy.
Thanks
The KO2M Team
