who will hone a die for me?

Can someone recommend someone to do the job? Its a Hornady F/L 6.5-284, I just want it opened up to .290 so that I don't have to fart with the expander.

Please positively identify from personal experience, not, "I heard that so and so will do it"

Contacted and struck out:
JLC (nor return call, no email response)
Hornady ("no, but we offer custom dies")
My local tool and die shop ("we can't do case-hardened steel")

Yes, I know I can just buy one... and yes I will do that is I strike out.

How much is being honed out? What tolerance are you looking for? If it's only a couple thousands coming out, I can easily do it to +/-.0005". MikeC

I would polish the expander down or get a different one,way easier.

That will only create more neck tension by not allowing the expander expand the sized neck back out.

I'd simply get a Redding Type S bushing die.

Please explain to me how opening up the OD of the neck(less neck sizing by the die) creates more work for the expander?

It doesn't create more work for the expander. Opening the neck will size the neck less, thus less resistance going back over the expander.

Forster will do one for you>>>IF they have one in stock... Whidden will do one for you IF they have one in stock AND you speak to somebody to make the request... Both do exactly what you want..

In all honesty I can't see why a local machine shop couldn't do this for you , if it's something they've not done before give them a brief run down of the tolerances you expect.

JLC contacted me. $50 to hone, and I'm wiring on the reply for $ to modify it for bushings.

Here's the link describing Jim's services (provided by BoydAllen..): http://www.6mmbr.com/CarstensenJLC01.html

Getting a little happy here...

hmmm… tool and die shop tried and gave up (he didn't try real hard…), but never though of a speed shop.

what's that mean, "sunken"?

Just waiting on another reply from JLC..

That'll be this fellow:

It may be just a tad difficult to get ahold of him, but he's there. Busy in the shop as I understand.

Sunnen is a brand of honing machines used in automotive shops that would hone the inside of a die. I just had the chance to buy a used one about 4 months ago. I had my local shop hone a 38-55 die about 2 years ago on one.
