Who Sells a Good Heat Shield?

Would like to put a heat shield on the 30" barrel of my F-Class rifle. What are you using and would your recommend it? Thanks.

I use metal shades of shades for windows. Got mine from a friend. Little sanding, cut to length and a nice coat of flat black. Free and it works just dandy! Before I used a piece of cardboard cut to length and then taped. Worked well too. Didnt look good but functionality is 9/10ths.

Velcro circles from walmart. I use 3 on the barrel, one toward the muzzle, one midway, and one right in front of the scope. Stick them on the barrel or mirage shield first then stick it on. Hope this helps.

The slats from venetion blinds (you can often find them at thrift stores or you can buy replacement slat pieces at any drapery shop) held in place with velcro fasteners work pretty well. Their pretty easy to cut, if necessary, with light duty metal shears.

Excellent. There is window-blinds shop a few miles down the road. Probably get any color I want. Will probably get bright white and paint the top flat black. They may even have the velcro. Thanks.

For a wider than 2 inch shield you can purchase vertical blinds for a patio door and cut them to length. What I have been using is xray film (available if your have a friend at the local clinic-they run test film daily before doing any test) it is lite weight and you can cut it to the width you what.
Good luck
Jim

Why is the top painted black? I just put a piece of masking tape (normal white/ivory) on my barrel the other day. It was more to keep it cool. It was 95 and sunny, hot conditions do not happen much up here in MN, for sure days I say lets go to the range. Another black barrel just laying in the sun "unfired" you could not pick up and carry more than 10 feet before you had to reconsider if you wanted blisters or grass stains on the barrel...

I use the above solution but certainly wouldn't paint them flat black!! kinda defeats the whole purpose! Leave them white!

I took a piece of an old target with a nice teen group on it. Cut it "3 Inches Wide" and long enough to cover the length of the barrel. Had it Laminated at OfficeMax for a couple dollars. Attached it with 3 small Velcro squares. Three inches wide does a better job of moving the heat away.

black will draw and hold the heat. this you do not want. if it needs painted, paint it white or some other light color.
