I spotted it on an older browning a bolt rifle for sale on armslist.

Looks to be a handfull of baffles trapped in a cage with a slotted outer cylinder that can be rotated to regulate the amount of gas vented sideways.

Maybe a one off attempt at a 'legal' suppressor?

E bay parts . Buy at your own risk . The internals are sold as brakes the external tube can be bought usually as a tube , threaded . Then someone slotted it to be somewhat legal ( here in the states ) if it rotates and reduces the decibel even by one , it's a suppressor and illegal
