Who makes lightweight sub MOA AR-10?

Looking for very lightweight AR-10 in 6 or 6.5 creedmore.

Must be MOA or less out to 1,000 yards.

Cost not a factor within reason.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Cost not being a factor isn't an issue, not many bother with the non-standard large format AR types. You've got a lot of research ahead to see who's format you'll use, however if you want an AR-10, only one company makes it and that is Armalite. If you want a large format AR, then that changes the selection a bit, consisting mostly of DPMS gen1; DPMS gen2 and Armalite.

Your request for a 1MOA semi AR platform to 1K is a tall order.
Build it yourself & save money.
The US military use the M110 platform for a 800yd-1/2mi. rig.

Base your decision on magazine(s)
ArmaLite AR-10A uses the childs toy(PMag) plastic mags
ArmaLite AR-10B use the manly modified M1A/M14(GenI) or Gen II mags(steel) also.

A DPMS(LR308),Knight Armament(SR25)Les Baer Custom,Sig 716,along w/ 90% of the CNC'd receiver platforms use the childs toy P Mags.

Any semi or full rock & roll firearm is only as good as it's magazine/link/belt system.
There is a reason machine gun links & belts weren't/aren't made from plastic!

I use the term AR-10 loosely perhaps. Large frame AR perhaps what I intended.

And I'm with you on the plastic mags, never a fan.

Never shot AR-10 but have two Barnes Precision AR-15's. One has Krieger and shoots 1/2 moa with 77 smk molys, shot a 0.172" one fateful day. I'm keen to the differences in shooting bolt vs auto, but a novice.

My AR15 shoots bug holes and clover leafs. But I realize this may not be reflective of many autos. I'm looking for a light rifle that can hit 1-2 moa targets out to 1000 yards with emphasis being 200-700 yards.

Just getting into PRS and DMR events and calendar is already full. Alabama Feb, Woodys and The Guardian in April, Finger,Tenn in May, lots of local stuff thrown in between. Bug bit me pretty good.

But I do have some medical issues, neuropathy and muscle waisting in hands and arms. Loss of fine motor coordination in both hands, surgery on bilateral wrists and elbows. Not helped by four titanium rods in back this past February, resultant from MVA. I'm lucky though. Worked as ER nurse for 13 years. Must be thankful for what we got.

However, my assorted issues make carrying and positioning my Ruger Precision 6.5 creedmore very difficult. For insight, I can't open a 20 ounce soda or pack of sandwich meat. Use two hands to open gas cap on car. That sort of thing.

A lightweight, accurate, AR10 seems like a great fit for me. No bolt to operate and fumble, lightweight so I can position it, and of course, just be able to carry it through the course of the match.

I would buy enough mags for entire round count of match and pre-load at home, likely employing the wife's assistance and good will.

Embarrassing, and a reflection of my level of deconditioning these last 3 years since the shit hit the fan, but I'm getting into shooting PRS/DMR events for some exercise.

Trying to play with the hands I was dealt. Pun intended. Hah.

I too have a 15 that shoots bugholes, and is only a few points behind in our local high power prone at 600y.

I'd have recommended a DPMS gen 1 6.5 creedmoor, but parts are harder to find since the gen2 update. I'd point you to accuracy systems Inc. And a hydraulic buffer. My 7SAUM with muzzle break (harrels) and hydraulic buffer recoils less than my 11.5lb 223, though double ear protection is needed...

Thanks Mac.

Appreciate the rifle suggestions guys. Checking them out now.

Anyone familiar with Christensen Arms, I see a carbon fiber hand guard and barrel in a large AR, AR-10, whatever. 7.8 lbs.

Additionally, any input on Proof carbon fiber barrels?

Thanks for any input.

Just for reference, I'm currently here, and trying to downsize weight wise.

Ruger Precision 6.5 creedmore. 10.6 lbs
Vortex Razor 5-20. 2 lbs
Harris/Larue 6-9" bipod 1 lb
Rifles Only sling. 0.5 lb
Kahntrol 3 gun brake
Ergo barricade stop
Pigskin pad

Basically 15 lbs

Dan,

The rifle is about the only thing you are going to be able to lighten up in your list. A quality AR-10 is going to run about 9 lbs with an 16 inch barrel. The carbon fiber barrel might shave off another 0.5 lbs or so. Going to an AR-15 platform in .264 LBC/6.5 Grendel or 6.5 Lapua would probably save some more weight due to smaller sized components. Les Baer Custom Super Match .264 LBC with 20 to 24 inch barrel would be hard to beat. 0.5 MOA from the factory and around $2800 new.

Thanks man. Looking to buy complete rifle. Will be a while as coins are low.

Dan

I have the new matching LAR lower that goes with this Grendel upper also.

Also will have a brand new DPMS LR-308 in 6.5 Creedmoor as a complete rifle for sale, as soon as the custom barrel arrives.

Holler if interested.

Hey, the good news is if you get a GAP gun you save money on a scope, just point it in the general direction and shoot and it will hit the target. (Hey, I read it on the interweb)

JP makes awesome stuff as well as Larue.
