I use the term AR-10 loosely perhaps. Large frame AR perhaps what I intended.
And I'm with you on the plastic mags, never a fan.
Never shot AR-10 but have two Barnes Precision AR-15's. One has Krieger and shoots 1/2 moa with 77 smk molys, shot a 0.172" one fateful day. I'm keen to the differences in shooting bolt vs auto, but a novice.
My AR15 shoots bug holes and clover leafs. But I realize this may not be reflective of many autos. I'm looking for a light rifle that can hit 1-2 moa targets out to 1000 yards with emphasis being 200-700 yards.
Just getting into PRS and DMR events and calendar is already full. Alabama Feb, Woodys and The Guardian in April, Finger,Tenn in May, lots of local stuff thrown in between. Bug bit me pretty good.
But I do have some medical issues, neuropathy and muscle waisting in hands and arms. Loss of fine motor coordination in both hands, surgery on bilateral wrists and elbows. Not helped by four titanium rods in back this past February, resultant from MVA. I'm lucky though. Worked as ER nurse for 13 years. Must be thankful for what we got.
However, my assorted issues make carrying and positioning my Ruger Precision 6.5 creedmore very difficult. For insight, I can't open a 20 ounce soda or pack of sandwich meat. Use two hands to open gas cap on car. That sort of thing.
A lightweight, accurate, AR10 seems like a great fit for me. No bolt to operate and fumble, lightweight so I can position it, and of course, just be able to carry it through the course of the match.
I would buy enough mags for entire round count of match and pre-load at home, likely employing the wife's assistance and good will.
Embarrassing, and a reflection of my level of deconditioning these last 3 years since the shit hit the fan, but I'm getting into shooting PRS/DMR events for some exercise.
Trying to play with the hands I was dealt. Pun intended. Hah.
