Who can sleeve an old 25 rimfire to 22 LR?

I was given my Grandfather’s old gun. It’s been sitting in the safe for 40 years. I have the notion to get it sleeved to 22 Long Rifle so I can shoot it. The only marks on it says it was rebored by Steven’s. Evidently, Grandpa wanted to shoot it with a “modern” cartridge and had it done in 25 Steven’s.
The action is still tight and in good shape. Anybody have any suggestions?
I’M LOOKING FOR A SMITH TO DO THE WORK. RECOMMENDATIONS???

Yes -make a 25ACP rifle-… only rifle that can be made to shoot it… I bid on several… missed them all…
I have shot one that was converted, it was enjoyable

Hmmm. That thought went thru my head but I didn’t think it possible. I’ll scrub the barrel and see what it looks like.

The breech face has to be converted to center fire to do the 25 acp conversion , Not a big deal. Not sure on the chamber. But Swedish Rolling Blocks made by Husqvarna were a Large rimfire 11mm something and many were converted to centerfire.

Edit: If I remember right "Harry Potterfield" has a video on breech face conversion for some type of falling block rifle that was originally rimfire.

The breechblock still looks like a rimfire to me. The firing pin is offset from the ring of corrosion on it. Best to have it checked before doing anything.

Yup…the 25 Steven’s was a rimfire cartridge…long discontinued.
The gun has a nice set trigger that works great.

I do have a Ballard that was originally a 44 cal. rimfire that I converted to 17HMR. It looks cool and shoots pretty well but not the most accurate thing I own. But at least I got it back in action after many years of lounging around in somebody's closet.

That sounds great but WHO DID YOUR SLEEVE????

Hi guys: I’m looking for recommendations for a guy to line the gun.
Please remit?

Lee Shaver would probably do the reline to 22 LR. That would be a place to start.

Theres a few options before a liner.

Neck up 17 WSM, it’s tedious, but relatively easy.

You can buy or convert 22 Hornet to accept a 22 starter blank as a primer, or convert the block to center fire and use a modified hornet case. The web needs to be swaged or turned down.

All of the above may require cast your own bullets, there are a few pre cast 65 grain out there. But if Stevens did the rebore, it’s probably a 17 twist, and that weight bullet is ideal.

If you want to try any of the above, I’m sure I can get you enough materials to get started.

John Taylor. I think his shop is Taylor machine and I believe he is in the Pacific Northwest, orygun or wash state. Liners are his specialty. Dig around on the ASSRA forum if an internet search doesn't turn him up.

Also, if he's still in business you'll want to get a liner from TJ's in Kentucky if I remember right. Much better liners than redmonds. Been a long time since I've done a liner job, but the TJ's liners I used shot really well and were put in single shot target guns.

Had to look up Hoyt's address:

Robert A. Hoyt

His phone # is 717-642-6696

TJ’s liners have an excellent reputation. They’re hammer forged and of excellent quality…lot of guys were using them in precision PCP air rifles.

I installed a barrel liner on a model 1890 22rf, so as to keep it original but also be able to shoot it, as the barrel inside was junk. I like the way it turned out and you have to look really hard to see the liner. the hardest part about this was finding the drill bit. if I can do this, as a home hobbyist machinist, I'm sure you can easily find someone.

I played around with loading 25acp for a brief period of time and decided, No, I actually mean, hell no. I'm sure there are guys on here that can load that, but why?, I think I would rather have a root canal before I load any more 25acp.
