Who can cut an internal acme thread for me? Found and done!

I am in the process of building a one piece rest for 22 RF benchrest. I need an acme thread cut in a piece of 2.5" diameter x .750" aluminum for the front elevation mariners wheel. I'll send the aluminum and acme threaded rod. Anybody?

That shouldn't be a problem for many gents here that have a lathe.....then aluminum to boot.
No lathe here....unfortunately. :-/
I'll guess 10 pitch

I just cut a 1 3/4" x 4 tpi acme to make a thread protector for a critical bolt at work. I'll need to buy an insert. PM me.

Yes Dud, Al can wear more rapidly. However, I'm thinking that the amount of rpms in its life and the lack of speed won't be a significant wear factor with some sticky grease applied.
It could be a fun over kill project if you had the material, equipment and wild hair for several hours of machine time.
I did this on an Al scope stand I copied from a pic in a Champions Choice catalogue. Knurling, Heli Coils, brass wear sleeves and points, heated parts shrunk fit b/c of a slight shortage of necessary length. Fun project.

PS.....to do a 1"- 10, I'm thinking it will be a 3 tap set. I don't remember a thread depth rule of thumb for an Acme. You will be needing a decent Al lube.

A bronze thread insert might be a better idea. Sloppy ACME threads suck and I think aluminum would wear pretty quickly.

A bronze thread insert would be the cats pajamas but $60.00? Might still happen though.

Fun project, yes. Figuring the rest I'm going to clone is around $1000.00 and I have $150.00 invested in the majority of the materials so far and my time is worth zero, I'm looking forward to the project. I can easily handle everything but the Acme threading.
Anybody well versed in the classifications of Acme threads? The round bronze nuts at McMaster Carr are a 2G thread fit, will this be sloppy?

I always use the oilite bronze nuts and prethreaded acme rod. You can slap one of my mariner wheels and itll spin all the way down- no grease needed. And 2g is good if your threaded rod is of the same class
