While walking back to the truck yesterday ...

When living in eastern Oregon if you take a walk you are either going uphill or downhill where i live, if you should encounter level ground, well your legs may just stop because it's something they may not have encountered before.
The old road I was hiking on yesterday is within ear shot of I-84 and it's a place i used to coyote hunt maybe thirty years ago but haven't gone back to in years. It is only 1.2 miles but is very steep uphill going in and can make your calf's and knees burn if your out of climbing shape for that area. ( i am) This area still has spots of very thick stands of trees that you have to crawl through and little open meadows maybe 75-100yds across that make good shooting lanes. years ago i did pretty good taking coyotes from here.

I walked up to the top of the road and was working my way back down and walking along looking at the little openings on the downhill side to see where to build a blind when right in front of me two little fawns come racing up from where i was looking down below off the side of the road close enough to step on the toes of my boots, they never even looked at me and ran across the road and up the steep uphill side of the bank and were gone.

About thirty seconds later Momma comes crashing out of the brush down below me and runs up the hillside and almost right into me before she see's me and just miss's me and side hills over into the brush and lay's down panting so hard you could have heard her a mile away. I had my pistol out as the baby's came up the hill and now their gone and the doe's down below me panting like crazy with me standing on the edge of the road trying to see whats about to come out of the brush next down below me.

Nothing, ... I stood there listening to mom catch her breath and me watching both the road to see if i was being flanked as well as watching below me to see what might pop out of the brush but nothing. I was standing there for maybe 15 minutes probably making a perfect silhouette on the tree line so whatever was peeking out through the brush must have seen me and just moved on. I stood there until the doe got up and moved a little further away from me and then she went up to the road and after her twins.

I stood there for a bit longer wondering what it was, bears really don't care most of the time whats between them and lunch, both wolves and coyotes sometimes talk when hunting, but cats are for the most part silent. No i don't know what it was but i went back this morning to see if i could make a track but found nothing, the grass is so high i couldn't read anything between the 2' tall grass and brush you have crawl through. Oh well, it was a great walk anyway.

I thought i saw you two down there in the bush's with Darryl and Flo, ... I really Don't want to know what you four were doing!
