Whidden sizing dies

Just got my set of Whidden sizing, and micrometer seating dies. I am very impressed with the quality and price. They even supply a small shoulder bump gauge that looks like the Stoney Point without the changeable inserts, thought it was a nice addition. The sizing die comes with both decapping pin retainers, one to size up the inside of the case mouth and the other that does not touch it.

If I decide to go with a BRDX chamber, this is where I will get my dies.. no longer can anyone use the excuse for not chambering this round because of the lack of a good die without going with custom.

John's stuff looks really great. I'll be buying some of these dies for sure.

Anyone ever use his V-block bedding system?

John provided us with a set of 6 BRDX dies and both the bushing FL sizing die and the Micrometer-top seater die are truly excellent. These dies are producing ammo with .0015 max run-out, measured on the bullet and on the neck. Most cases are under .001. The dies are extremely well-machined with unique fluted locking rings that are easy to use. One big surprise was the accuracy of the gradations on the micrometer seater. I caution folks to never assume that one mark = .001. With my Whidden die, one mark is closer to .001 than with dies I own from RCBS, Redding, Forster, and Wilson. Whidden makes a very good product, I can recommend the dies whole-heartedly. I just hope that, in the future, John may offer an inline (arbor press style) seater as well -- though I can tell you the seater produces very consistent and straight ammo. Just be sure to have the tension nut at the top of the seater firmly tensioned.

Also, FYI, John offers expander "balls" in .0005 (1/2 thousandth increments). If you are a fan of expanders, these offer extra-precise control over neck tension. I am currently using my BRDX dies with no expander, But I can envision using them when I want to "relax" the neck tension provided by the bushing a half-thousandth.

Gundog, I have a v-block installed by Whiddens in my VFS 6mm br it works great. Have taken it out a time or two very little shift in point of aim. Not the blocks fault at all. mostly mine and torque on action screws. Would do it again.

When I ordered mine, I ordered a dasher set and had to wait about a week for him to finish the seater. But I love them.
