Whidden Gunworks Oh My!

I've had a number of guns made in the last year by Burke at Whidden Gunworks and I wanted to share my positive experience.

After using their dies for a good amount of time with great success I noticed on their site that they did Gunsmithing and I had a number of projects I wanted to start. It said they finished projects in weeks instead of months, so I decided to try them. I have to say they are some of the best shooting guns I have ever had and all were done in a matter of weeks.

Also they are the easiest people to do business with and it's done right.

They ended up doing a 6BR repeater, two 6.5x47 repeaters, 223 repeater, and two 308 FTR rifles for me in less than a year. Load development for the rifles is below.

All groups at 250 (one is 100) from a SEB joypod with thrown charges.

Thanks Burke and Whidden Gunworks

Meh! my wal-mart special will do that, all kidding aside the feeling you get when you get a shooter it's like watching your fist born.

with thrown charges.
Nice work by Whidden and nice shooting on your part! If this is too far off topic I'd appreciate a PM. Lately I've seen folks on this forum expressing powder charges to the 1/100 of a grain (I. e. 30.xx) and I've even been considering getting digital scale the weighs to the 100th. If you are getting this outstanding accuracy with thrown charges I wonder if all this powder precision is worth it? Thoughts? Thanks

I only throw charges when I'm doing load work ups on my portable loading setup. Once I have a good idea of the clicks needed I reference a chart I made that has the grains equivalent for different powders.

Might sound like a pain but I found it gets me in a good spot much quicker and it's easy to go back and forth between charges and powders on the fly.

I don't like throwers at all. I even found that I have double check my clicks-to-grains references because it will change over time :-/

I'm sure there are guys who know more about this than lil 'ok me though :-)

I spoke with Burke yesterday. He is shipping another project back to me. The customer service and work performed are always excellent. Communication is the best I've ever had with a gunsmith. The rifle left my house August 10th. It needed a new barrel and brake along with a full Cerakote on the XLR chassis and action. It will be back on Monday, five weeks including transit time. Impressive!

I highly recommend Whidden Gunworks.
