Whidden Die Bullet Pointing - insert choice

I shoot VLD's and Hybrids in my 308 for FTR. I know Whidden recommends a #1 insert for a Hybrid/ VLD ogive geometry.

But has anyone tried a #0 insert on a Hybrid/VLD and is their any pro's or con's if you dont use the recommended insert?

Left bullet = #1 insert
Right bullet = #0 insert

I have always used Whidden's recommended insert. When time allows I think I'll try the different one as you did and shoot some head to head to see what happens on the target.

From an aerodynamics point of view, the bullet on the left should represent a "sleeker" shape. If you examine the bullet on the right, you'll note a sharper transition - this could create a small pressure buildup/disturbance at that point.
HOWEVER, the bullet on the right seems to have a finer point, which should increase BC too.

I would say that both inserts will create a more consistent and more aerodynamic profile than would exist in a bullet "out of the box." And I think the differences between the two pointed bullets will be much smaller than the difference between pointed and unpointed bullets.

Seems you would have to be more careful with the 0 insert as it would buckle the jacket quicker and cause a change in base to ogive.
