Which way does scope/mounts move under recoil?

Just put a farrell 20 degree pic rail on my 7-08. For now, cheep 2 screw rings with round cross bolt. The rail slots are twice as wide as the ring cross bolts. Should I pull the bolt rings back in the slots or forward, prior to tightening? Just in case they would slip a little. I assume any cross bolt, weaver type mount rings will work in this rail, or is their a special type made for them? If slots are like 3/16" wide, are proper mounts made with a 3/16" square cross bolt? Thanks, Ron.

Put them in the front of the slot, or they will slip under recoil.

Forward in the slot. ( Towards the muzzle). There is then no space for them to 'slip' into as they are contacting the the ridge in front of it.

The scope is stationary and the recoil of the rifle is to the rear so it gives the appearance of the scope moving forward. As was said push the scope foreward to reduce clearance and give a positive stop to eliminate the rings movement. ;)

Yes, you hear five, and you can see from the video, everything needs to be tight.

Isaac Newton would be proud of all you guys.
Inasmuch as this involves inertia, Galileo deserves the credit.
