Which twist ?

I'm sitting here planning the next .308 which looks to be a savage 10 PC, i will be shooting 125-135gr bullets for the most part but may use some 155's from time to time.
This model now comes as either a standard 1:10 twist or now can be had with a 1:11.25 as well. So my question is which of those two would be best for the lighter 125-135gr bullets? Is it a toss up? Thanks

Hey Blue, if you are going to limit your bullet range to a max of 155, try a 1-13 twist. It will work all the way to 168's and does VERY well in the "lower court" of bullet weight.

It all depends on who you talk to. Some say you can't spin a bullet too fast but I know you sure can spin one too slow for accuracy. I have never seen any problem with the 10" twist with anything from 110 up to 180s in the 308 myself.

Should you decide on a 13 twist savage prefit, the Criterion is available through Jim Briggs. Mine arrived a couple of weeks ago. I shot it with some initial test loads this week using 125 SMK (p/n 2121) and benchmark. One 3 shot group measured .287 at 100.

Another note on the 125 SMK. It is a long for weight bullet. It will seat into the lands of a SAMI chamber and the base of the bullet will be near the neck/shoulder junction in a 308.

As stated, 13-twist would be great for those pills. If you can only choose between 10- and 11.25-twist, the 11.25 would be better for the lighter (shorter) projectiles you mentioned. A 10-twist is really way more than you need for those.

Why is the 11.25 better for the lighter (shorter) projectiles?

Thank you, all I ever see is people saying that twist is too fast and it won't work, it is nice to see an explanation. And thank you for the links too.

I would like to thank everyone as well for all the help. I may at some point try heavier bullets but because of the past eye problem i think it may be best to start with lighter bullets and maybe just a little less recoil, time will tell that and i'll keep my fingers crossed. Thanks everybody.
