Which scope?

about to buy one or the other. Sightron S3 6x24x50 ffp or Vortex viper pst 5x25x50 ffp. Yeh I know the vortex has zero stop and illumination but the reviews say the S3 is more repeatable and better optics. Opinions? Thanx Mike. Edit, for my RPR 6.5 creed and non competition. I shoot mostly prone not to exceed 1k and hunt coyotes.

Do yourself a favor and don't buy the vortex. I have dealt with one hst, one pst, and one pst gen II that all went bad before a hundred rounds. I will say they stand behind their warranty. Never had a problem with sightrons.

Have had them both, STILL have the Sightron!

This isn't intended to refute your post. I'm sure what you say is true but my experience is just the opposite. I don't own the exact models the OP is discussing, but I do one one Sightron and one Vortex. I never had any trouble from my Vortex, but something fell apart inside my Sightron and I had quite a difficult time getting Sightron to repair it. It took a long time too and since I had a match coming up, I was forced to purchase another scope in order to compete.

No scope that I am aware of is exempt from breaking. There are too many parts in them. That said I think all of the better brands are pretty good. The warrantee is what will set most apart from the pack. The really high end scopes are true works of art but have little to no warrantee at all. If one brakes you foot the bill.

I would look at all the brands and pick which one fits my need and price range better. Bushnell makes a great high end line and backs it as well. Cheap scopes are, well cheap scopes. I have the SWFA mentioned above and it has been great. It doesn't have the zero stop which is an inconvenience but has worked well and has good glass. They back it with great service. Some people carp about the illumination not being bright but it is intended for low light and works great for that.

When you pay a lot for anything you should expect the maker to back the purchase with good service.

I have been shooting (600 yard F open) a Sightron now for the last couple of years and have no complaints. Wish I could say the same for my Nightforce that I paid double the money for.

I own both and like both. Never had any problems with either one. My latest purchase was Nikon's X-1000 very good scope for the money.
