Which scope to choose from?

Hi folks
A happy year's end and a merry and bright new year to all first ;now with my question:it's not so much a question of budget so,we'll leave that aside and consider the
scope itself:I have to get one for the project I'm finalising and I'm torn between Bushnell Elite 6500 2,5x16x50 or Vortex 4x16x50.Can you give me your opinion on that please gentlemen?
I'm still a bit unsure of Bushnell being that "High end"even though I know this is one of their top product? If some among you
have had experience with any or better still both these scopes,I'd appreciate their advice. Thanks in advance. CB

Hi, if you are looking for a mid power scope with good clarity, try to find a used pre 2004 Vari-X III Leupold with 30 MM tube in a 4.5-14 or 6.5-20. These will work well for you. Lifetime warranty of course. I have no experience with Vortex, but have owned a few Bushnell 4200 Elites and they were fine but the Leo's seem to hold up better.

And read some of the other threads. Bushnell has a poor reputation for customer service and repairs. Can't beat a used Leupold with the forever, no matter who owns it warranty, that will also add to your re-sale value when you decide to sell it anytime in the future.

Can't comment on a Vortex: never had one & never plan on it.

Both are good scopes. Don't worry about the Bushnell name, the 6500 is a good piece of glass as is the Vortex.

Nothing against the scopes you mentioned, but I agree with fd and 40x. If it is me, I'm buying a scope with a lifetime warranty. Leo's, Sightrons, Nikons are my picks in the price range that I believe you are looking at. And if you plan to keep it for yourself and never sell it, then Weaver is also a consideration. All of these have scopes and models within the power range you're seeking.

I Would rather buy a used scope with a lifetime warranty than a brand new one with a dead end warranty. JMHO ;) WD

Clod,
How is your summer going down there? cold up here. Can you get whatever you want down there or are you stuck with options you gave? If you have many options I think I also would go with Leupold, like Dave I have a couple dozen of them with no real complaints. If the answer is no and the two choices you gave is what your options are I would have to say the 6500, I don't own one but have looked through and shot other peoples rifles that had them and they looked pretty good, the 6500 series seems to have better glass then the 4200 series or at least the ones I looked through seem that way, I know nothing of the Vortex so I can't say yay or nay, hope to hear from you soon Clod, let me know how your new build is going.
Wayne.

Hello gentlemen
Well, thanks to all who responded to my inquiry...Again,a Merry year's end to all and a fabulous New Year, with love, heallth, wealth and all your hopes and wishes fullfilled.Bozo,to make it concise,we were headed to the drought of the decade but fortunately, all of the sudden ,3 weeks ago, the skies opened up and now the water is flooding everything, wind is blowing quite hard & steady, country is all muddy, but at least no farmer will have to complain about his cattle dieing of thirst...It's still tepid though, but that's the way it goes round here so.As to these scopes I asked about,I'll probably settle on the Bushnell, from what I've yet gathered from the net, they seem to be pretty serious pieces of scopes, and anyway I don't like Leupold, nothing to do with what they are really intrinsically,I just don't feel easy looking through them for whatever reason, and besides they don't fit in my budget in this class of scope I'm after...I still have to consider the Sightron which seem to be pretty awesome too. Well, thanks to all for your help,I'll try and manage.
PS: Wayne, the whole paperwork was sent to Mc Gowen via Fedex on the 22nd of Dec.so now I'm just waiting.

Clod,
I am glad to hear it's all still coming together for you, I am glad to hear your pulling through the drought, we are having our own drought conditions here in the mid western part of the States. I am sure you will be happy with your scope choice, take care and p.m me from time to time and let me know how things are doing wayyyy down under ;)
Wayne.
