I am looking at alternatives with respect to getting into 6BR. My use will be principally paper punching and some varminting. I was initially going to buy a Cooper but I may be more satisfied by building a rifle. I am thinking about getting a Savage action and building the rifle. Which Savage action is the correct one for a 6BR single shot project. I prefer right hand bolt and left port. The Savage web-site lists a number of them but with only a 223 bolt head. Would either of the following be suitable and how does one handle the bolt head. I have been able to reduce the selection to the following:
Target Actions Right Bolt, Left Port, stainless, 223 bolt head
SVarmint Actions Stainless, 223 and standard bolt head
Also what is the difference between a Target Action and a SVarmint Action?
Alternatively I could buy a model 12 Long Range Precision Varminter and then change out the barrel. Would it be as cost effective / optimal to purchase the complete gun and then just swap out the barrel for a Pac-nor with the same barrel contour?
Also how is the HS Precision stock which comes with the model 12 Long Range Precision Varminter?
Thanks for the advice. All of this is rather new.
