IMHO whatever you get, buy the rings and level separate. Nothing good comes out of buying all-in-one units.

By the way, I love love love my Kahles 10-50 and hope you end loving it as well. It’s amazing.

Can I ask why?

I do hope I enjoy the scope (and rifle). Given some changes in personal circumstances it now appears very expensive/extravagant but I'm sure it will last a lifetime.

I’m assuming you’re asking me the why? If so it’s because it does what I want. I never doubt the tracking. It’s clear as clear can get. Good light when you’re first relay at dawn. 20moa per revolution with a great zero stop and indicator system. Full use of the entire zoom range with no falloff (many popular scopes in the $1200-$2500 range can’t do this). I love the reticle. Top of scope parallax adjustment is cool too. I can’t remember the last time I had any chromic aberration. I can honestly tell you I’ve gained points since switching to it (who knows if it’s the scope but I feel it is).

It’s also one of the only scopes out there that utilizes a four spring adjustment system so you never have spring-back or whatever you want to call it after an elevation adjustment. A lot of popular scopes move a little after the first shot following a turret change because they utilize a single leaf style spring on the elevation but the Kahles has this amazing four spring system that eliminates that. I’ve found a lot of people that sell them don’t even know that about them. I wouldn’t have know except I attended a Kahles sales meeting and it was discussed. Most of the Kahles don’t utilize it but the 10-50 Moak does (supposedly it was something they brought over from Swarovski).

Lastly it’s sexy as sexy. I like to believe sexy gets me an extra X each time. :p

I’ve shot F-class with a couple Golden Eagles and two different NF Comps and they’re all fantastic scopes for the money but you couldn’t talk me out of my Kahles. Did I mention I love it? We all have reasons we live our scopes, these are just mine.

I was originally looking at the Spuhr mounts but not sure the extra cost is worth it. I'm also unsure of the required height. The scope has a 56mm objective.

EDIT: just looking at the Spuhr for a moment am I right to look at a 30mm height and say I have a 56mm objective and so 28mm height => 30mm height rings is ok?

I use Spuhr 3001 mounts for both my Vortex GE scopes - love them.

Spuhr is hands down the best uni-mount on the market. Not cheap, but you wont regret it.

I run a 34mm Spuhr on my Defiance Deviant Tactical action. The Spurh mount is built like a steel clad brick sh*t house! Tough as they come and perfect ring alignment. Spuhr has a built in level and the ring design doesnt block your vision on the windage knob either. The rail attachment design doesnt leave big obstructing bolt nuts hanging off the side either so theres no issues with having and eject/load port under them. Very intelligent design.

Spuhr is on the left in the photo. I only run one piece mounts on magnum rifles. EGW at the top. Nightforce Xtreme duty standard and compact mounts on the right. NF mounts are nice too, but dont compare in strength and rigidity to the Spuhr. The photos show the obvious difference in construction that makes the Spuhr so strong. Amazingly enough, the Spuhr mount only weighs 1/2 an ounce more than the NF Xtreme duty mounts in the photo.

F Class John, sorry I had meant why not integrated levels in the ring set itself? (Thanks for the views on the scope tho!)

My Spuhr is a 34mm and is 1.18" high. Bare minimum to work with a 56mm objective and 34mm tube.

For 30mm tube in the Kahles I would go with a minimum of 1.35" ring height. Maybe 1.5" height or more for a bench rifle.

Spuhr also makes a 'Hunting Series' one piece mount that isn't quite as beefy as the 'Ideal Mount' but it's also easier on the wallet. Here's a link to the Hunting Series 30mm, 1.35" high mount.

Are you gonna have a cheek weld on the rifle or not? Benchrest shooters dont like to put cheek pressure on the comb. PRS, Fclass, hunting, and prone shooting for fun you will want a better cheek weld on the rifle.

Also consider if you plan on using scope caps or not.

1.18" is basically or normal high ring required for 56mm objectives. But scopes can vary a little bit.

I would place the scope on the rifle in a set of cheap rings or whatever you have on hand right now. Whatever works for how you want it, measure the ring height from top of rail to bottom of the ring and go with something close to that measurement. Even if the scope sits to high or too low in rings you have, just use simple math with the measurement to decide which Spuhr ring height will get the optic where you want it while maintaining barrel clearance.

Because if you’re serious about what you’re doing you’ll want to have a top end level that you position where it works for you, not where the scope rings force you to have it.

Although the Spuhr Ideal has a built in level, it's not in a very 'ideal' location. Probably the only negative thing I can say about the mount.

This is how I like my level positioned. Doesnt obstruct view of any turrets and can easily be seen over the top of the windage/illumination turret with my left eye when lined up on target behind the scope. (Rifle before I installed a one piece mount)

Same as Ledd. This is what I’m talking about in terms of having the level separate from the rings.
