Which reamer, bullet and twist rate for 6br?

Well, if I ever see Bigfoot and survive, no one will ever know.

They'd lock me up.
I have a 6 br with a 13 1/2" pitch barrel. The person. The club I shoot at shoots a mid range challenge. We shoot a 300 yard rapid fire target at 600 yards. 3" x ring and 7" ten ring. The first one to shoot 100 shot it with 70 grain Sierra's. He shot 100 with 7 X's. His group was under 2" s.That was with a 13 1/2 twist Shilan. Toms. It shoots really small with 80 gr Berger's from 100 to 600 yards,as long as wind is mild.

On one hand, it seems this has been beaten to death. On the other hand, this cartridge is new to me, so I don't know what to do.

Bought a used Borden action with a 6br barrel and benchrest stock. Barrel was very fouled and looks questionable at best when cleaned. So. The doubt is already in my mind. Thinking of a rebarrel.

Want to go with a Kreiger blank. That much I do know. I'm restricted to 200 yards now and for the foreseeable future.

Given that distance restriction, what would you choose regarding the rate of twist, bullet weight and reamer selection? I've never turned necks before. Understand the process, just never done that.

I don't even know if I'm 'cut out' for benchrest. Just 'dipping my toe' in the water to see what I think about it.

Thanks for looking.
these days i shoot mostly a 6br with 7.5 twist and 105s. but that is longer range than 200 yds. i do have one 6br with a 13 twist i shoot 68 bergers out of at SR. its very accurate to and past 200. if youre only going to be shooting to 200 thats what i would get. that said my 7.5 tw 6BRs shooting 105 hybrids shoot very good at short range (100-200) and with them you have the option to shoot farther if you wanna some day

For your stated intentions, a .272 no-turn neck with .040-ish free bore (look at the JGS 1262) in a 12 twist barrel would be the Easy Button. The supply of quality bullets that will work in that combo is huge. Uniform the primer pockets on new Lapua brass, grab some N135 and you're off to the range. Redding or Harrell's f.l. bushing die, a few bushings and a Wilson inline seater is all you need for dies.

The giant sized Easy Button is shooting the barrel that's on it, to start with.

I do plan to try it before I buy a barrel/reamer.

If memory serves, it has a 12 twist on it currently.

Limited to 100yrds myself I’ve got 1-14tw spencer barrel 24” no turn .272nk
Bullets range from 55-65gr varmint and a few 66gr barts and bib hope this helps some good luck man 5 shots 1 hole go getum

Going with an 8 twist that’ll shoot the 103-109 range of bullets really well is a good choice for 100-600yd plinking or competition. There are allot of choices in that weight class of bullets that work really well with .120-.140 freebore chambers. If you go lighter 65-70gr bullets and a faster twist barrel route just keep in mind those pills have been less abundant in lean times of components. A 6br no neck turn chamber with a 271 neck is a little tight with Alpha brass and some of the latest lots of Lapua brass so I understand from fellow shooters. Depending on brass choice you need to consider a 272 (Lapua) or even a 273-274neck (Aplha). Pick your components and tell your gunsmith what you’re going to be using and they should have a reamer to suit your needs and component choices. Wsmnut on here at ODCR rifles can help you out.

If you are not shooting over 200 yards, if the Borden action will pull ppc cartridges, I would rebarrel with a 6ppc if I wanted to win.

For a 6br, I would go with a 12 twist and 65-68gr bullets for 200 yards. You could shoot some 80gr bullets out of the 12tw quite well.

10tw would allow you to shoot some of the heavier bullets as well, 87-95gr. and still shoot the lighter bullets well.

Like anything, a lots has to do with barrel, powder, bullet and tune.

Keep in mind that a barrel chambered for the 103-ish bullet lengths will have a free bore length completely different fron that used for the shorter bullets.
I'll have to do price comparisons. But I think the lighter, flat base versions are enough cheaper and given that my access to a range longer than 200 yards is doubtful I'd be spending more for no real benefit.

One thing I am stuck with. The current barrel has a .266" neck. I did get some brass with it, so at least I can shoot it some without buying brass and neck turning.
