Which Protektor Rear bag?

Time to purchase another rear bag. I have it narrowed down to the Protektor with bunny ears and a hard bottom or the optional one that is 1'' taller. Do any of you use the taller one and if you do, how do you like it? Thank you for the help.

I use a Protektor Model flat tracker bag. It's approximately 5 inches tall to the base of the ears. I had the taller bag made for me, because I practice on a bench and the height allows me to sit upright when I shoot. I like the bag very much. I now use it in F-Class matches once a month for prone position shooting. I like the height, but I feel as though the base to height ratio keeps it from being as stable as it could be on the artificial grass under the shooting mat. On the bench it's very stable. Also, I'm not sure the ears are as long as those on the shorter squarer Dr. bag Protektor makes. I'm breaking in a new rifle this weekend, so depending how it tracks with my GRS Precision stock, I may be ordering a new Protektor Dr. bag, primarily for prone shooting.

Here's a link to one similar then mine being sold on Ebay, except mine has wider ears to track better with my current stock:

Get ahold of hedgehoghunter on here, he sells them, I bought mine from him at what seemed like a pretty good price!

Thanks for the options. Where are you shooting sfl? I am wanting to get up to Port Malabar but it is quite a drive.

I use the ProTector #13 Rabbit Ear Rear Bag on the bench (and for F class). I've used a number of ProTector front and rear bags over the years. This one is my favorite.

I have 2 of the bags you mentioned. The first one I bought from Bob Pease in 1988.
I have a 37" sitting height from the chair to the top of my head and the taller rear bag is a lot better. It prevents me from having to bend over so far. I would probably like a taller bag even better. Even 2 or 3 inches taller would be good for me.

I have one at standard height and had them make a few spacers to go under it in case i need them at different ranges......I have used it all. Give them a call with your needs they are great to deal with.

I live in Coral Springs, FL, which is out west and just south of Boca Raton. I practice at Markham Park most weekend, because it's approximately 10 miles from my home, but I drive up to Port Malabar (143 miles from my home) a couple of times a month for F-Class shooting.

And yes, as Rick said, when I bought mine, I called Protektor and chatted with them about what I was looking for. They were very nice and advised me on which bag would be best. They even looked up my stock on the internet and suggested the right ear width for the bag I was ordering.

I was thinking the Protektor Model flat tracker bag would be a good fit for my new F-class stock? It has no rise and parallel front to rear. Do you want the bottom of the stock to contact the flat of the bag or have a gap, and be supported by the ears?

The rear bag shape is totally dependent on your rifle(s) butt style. Without that info, any advice i would offer would just be a guess. I would just call Protektor and get their advice.

That questions has been the subject of lots of debate online. I think you'll find that some prefer the stock to ride on the stitching and some prefer the stock to ride on the ears. Both methods can work for you.

Personally, I use a stock that's flat on the bottom and parallel to the stock's fore-end, and prefer the stock to ride on the flat stitching at the base below the ears. I only like the ears to keep the stock tracking straight, because I use a free-recoil type shooting style and want minimal friction from the ears.

Thanks for all of the great answers. I am going to go with the tall one. 99% of my shooting is prone with the bipod extended to 9'' height.
