Which powders to start

I know this is like putting the cart before the horse, but I just ordered some RCBS reloading equipment and I found some powder locally in a store closing it out.

Right now I plan to reload for my 22-250, 50-55 grain and later this year will build or convert my rifle to a 6mmbr for competition.

If everything goes well I plan to either buy the new savage 6.5-284 or build one or possibly build up a 7mm wsm. Either for long range comps, but I have not decided on the caliber for that yet. I know I want either 6.5 or 7mm.

I would like to start out with a couple of powders for the 22-250 that might also work for the others ??

and I am thinking two good ones to start out with would be varget and H380, but thats just from reading. I guess I have to start somewhere, but when looking around at load threads there are a lot of opinions.

or should I just start out with one powder and go from there.

I just need a starting point to work from.

Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

H380 will work great with the .22-250. Varget would be a better choice if you are planning to go into a 6BR anyway. RL 15 is another great powder to throw into the mix. Having shot out a couple .22-250 barrels, I would buy Varget and RL 15. Then you are also set for the 6BR in the future. Have fun!

I'll also add that the 52gr AMAX out shot the 52/53 SMKs once I went out past 200m. Nosler NBTs also shoot very nice. I could not get 60s to stabilize in my 1:14 twist no matter how hard I tried to shoot them. I think the AMAX is the best of the bunch, but I never shot any of the custom makes or Bergers.
