I just received some of Bart's Gungnirs and thought that I would give them a try in my old BAT. Today's conditions were not perfect (bright sun & gusty winds up to 10 MPH) but I decided to try the Gungnirs and also the Hammers. All of the bullets were seated .006" into the lands and I used 2 primers (already had some cases prepared with each). All groups were 3-shot at 200 yards and I started with 30.0 grains of H4895 (a mixture of 2 lots)/The Gungnirs & CCI 400 primers. The group was vertical and measured .210" (bottom left). The second group was with 30.0 gr. H4895 and 205M primers/Hamers at +.006". It measured .214 (upper left). #3 was 30.4 gr. H4895 (mix)/ Gungnirs and measured .290 (bottom right). The 4th group was a real eye-opener. It had 30.5 gr. of H4895/Fed. 205M and Hammers seated +.006. This is a replication of Bart's record-setting load (except primer) and I rough measured it at .058". This is amazing considering the wind and mirage. It may have been luck, but all of the groups were small. What did I learn..... the mixture of 2 lots of powder did not work as well as the pure lot. Both CCI and Federal primers shot well. Seating depth seemed good for both bullets. These were shot with my BAT/Leonard and a Lederer HV barrel w/.268 ND chambered in 6mm BRA.
Thank you Bart for these great bullets.....now which do I use? More testing needed. James
I realize that the groups are probably larger than reported since they were range measured by measuring outside and subtracting .243. However they are exceptional groups considering the wind and mirage. James
